I heard about this floating platform a few months ago. Initially, I was skeptic about it. What's the use of building it only to dismantle that platform after the NDP? But after going to the website and read the full story, i got excited about this floating platform.Originally posted by qpicanto:Why can't padang be used for the event?? How about Jalan Besar stadium or serangoon stadium ? Die die Mindef must award $1.5 millions contract to DSTA/sembcorb marine shipyard to build.
Even NSmen from Combat Engineering are 'seen' in the unveiling the platform according to mouthpiece today.
What's the rationale here, spending est $1,500,000/-, which create more works for NSmen, used as temp stadium , then 5 yrs later then dismantle.
What military application/value since designed by DSTA? Its not even cutting edge technology
Many Singaporeans these days are just so skeptical, shallow and narrow-minded about the things that the government does... Rugby match by the sea. sounds really good. then perhaps they may have some events for dance, threatre, play or concert. Really hoped that ssc can use it well.
Anyway, they never said that they will dismantle it after 5 years. Can still keep it beyond then. And if you are talking about the military value, just go and ask whats the job of combat engineer, especially 35 SCE.
The new capacity remains at 55,000.Originally posted by kikenfire88:If i did have not mistaken, the new sports hub can hold lesser ppl than our loved national stadium.
Thank you, senior.I have finally found a like minded one!Originally posted by freakass:Many Singaporeans these days are just so skeptical, shallow and narrow-minded about the things that the government does... Life is getting too good right?
I know many of you will still have your own negative views regarding this new floating stage, and of course you are entitled to your own views, but please do seriously give a thought about the whole issue before making irresponsible comments.
keep hoping then.Originally posted by DeadPoet:I hope I am wrong.
I suppose if NDP is going to be held at Padang again, the whiners are going to say that the organizer for NDP are doing the same shi.t every year and connect this issue to minister's pay and complain that it is a waste of tax payer money.Originally posted by freakass:Many Singaporeans these days are just so skeptical, shallow and narrow-minded about the things that the government does... I agree totally with matleep's post above. This floating platform is the world's first and largest flating stage and it will attract lots of attention and activities, and in turn generate lots of extra revenue, job opportunites, increased tourism etc. Who says it's only meant for NDP? So many other kinds of creative ideas can be carried out on this largest floating stage in the world! Oh, and by the way, who says it will be dismantled after 5 years? It was only reported that the next 5 years of NDP will be held there. Nothing was said about demolishing the platform after 5 years.
And regarding matleep's last point, you guys just dont understand how precious, important and useful these floating platforms are for the combat engineers. Portable bridges is the key idea. Why did DSTA design the platform in many easy-to-assemble and dismantle pieces? Just because it can be turned into a temporary bridge or other floating platforms in times of war.
