Is that really true? I beg to differ.

Why this bizzare nothing that press freedom would equal chaos and disaster? Unless you are implying that our almightly system is too weak to handle some alternative voices that we need to leap at the chance to make our media quite worthless in the sense of the word?
And yeah we wondered what happened to Speakers Corner, go ask any man on the street what was with that, and I doubt you get the answer that goes "it was a threat to our economic prosperity and stability and we see no use for it.", and more of "there were so many regulations in place and OB markers that it was more or less like the ST forum." Another "safe" and "bland" way of showing that we have the freedom to express alternative opinions but actually being another thing entirely.
Indeed, even if you disagree with the people in here, could you at least take the effort and show some basic courtesy by refraining from posting vapid and one-liner paragraphs that put nothing proper out for discussion? -

What a joke! Since when does a sovereign nation have to formulate its policies according to the wishes of the western liberal press? Perhaps some fossilized relics of the Juraissic period is trying to push us back into the clutches of the colonialists.
Singapore should be governed by Singaporeans and if the majority believes in a regulated press, that is right for us. With 82 out of 84 seats won by the ruling party, I would say that is a huge majority.
If you support the Opposition, for goodness sake at least try to put up a candidate to contest every ward at the next elections. Give the ruling party some proper competition instead of simply folding up and die at each elections -

But Singaporeans by and large have minimal impact on the crafting of government policy, so can you safely say; discounting the widely used flimsy excuse of having elections as a benchmark of a democracy, that the majority of Singaporeans want this current state of press standards, or is it much closer to the whims and fancies of a dominant ruling party that is NOT EXCLUSIVELY EQUATED to Singapore.

Freedom comes with responsibility. There is no restriction on the press here provided one can support allegations with facts and provide a balanced political view. There are plenty of high quality editorial reviews that give both sides of the story in the Straits Times. Clowns like CSJ can be just as successfully prosecuted for defamation if he were to commit the offence in the UK as in Singapore. What the likes of CSJ want is not freedom, it's anarchy.
What values should be espoused by a society is the prerogative of the people, not foreign activists. As long as we the majority believe in keeping a regulated media, retaining the death penalty and outlawing practices we consider as undesirable, the laws of the land must reflect that view.
Who holds the majority view? The electorate has spoken once every 4 years but you reject that as reflecting the voice of the majority. But what better indication is there of the will of the people? Just because you say so or the wild rantings of some forumners? -

There are two types of insults or mockery in here.
One is the wittty kind that really speaks to the irony of the situtation, that kind even if your english CMI people will be willing to look past it.
The other kind is the cheap, throwback response that is devoid of any humour or wit, and is merely used to keep up a front or simply to have something to reply back with.
In the case of the latter, each and every single mistake you made will be drawn out and used as ammunition against you. This is because your insult has failed and left you open to even more mockery without any real way to respond. In that case, expect to be mercilessly mocked on your mistakes.
If a person makes a valid and really funny insult, a person trying to respond by pointing out his english or other nitpickery will only have it backfire.
As for lionnoisy, most of what he writes is a joke, and his poor standard of English makes his attempts to make sense even funnier.
His threads in Military Nuts, which have all the writings of a person who knows zilch about anything military trying to toot the SAF's horn in there to all the experienced grunts are extremely funny. The way he got pwned in the body armour thread is classic. -

If the Singapore government was doing such a mighty fine job running the country, I don't see why they should face such a massive public outcry to the extend that our PM's balls shrunk and gave in...
The fact that he gave in (ableit short term) proves that the PEOPLE OF SINGAPORE feels that they are NOT worthy.
I am awaiting the next election... I hope that Singaporeans have more balls than our PM... or are we all made out of the same mould?
