My first cousins now residing in Canada, were highly amused at our Governments attempt to woo back Singaporeans in New York.
They think the regime is definitely out of touch with the people.
The ministers still do not get it. The fact is - talented Singaporeans left just to get out of our tightly controlled island.
In Singapore, there is no individual freedom perse. Your entire lives are directed and cheorographed by the regime.
You can get successful but not allowed to be too rich. You see, rich people are perceived as potential threats to the ruling regime - unless you allow yourself to be roped into the regime's circle. Like the bankers in Singapore.
Yes, many are waiting to return, but not now. Many of my Singaporean overseas friends and relatives hope and pray that the politics in here would change for the better.
Which means a change in government.
If not, they will never return. They have all tasted freedom and true democracies, and loving it! -
The way for Singapore's government to improve is not to handover the rein to the opposition... we do not need that to happen.
