The only person right now that the US listened to take reference is probably LKY. He visited the white house met up with Cheney and Bush on the middle east subject.
The thing is I don't think LHL fully understand how he should project himself as a leader of a country. its one thing to support a policy of a country is another thing to get into the mids of republican vs democrats issue. Withdraw with dates or no dates. Bush terms is ending and he is going to face the next President and most likely is a democrats.
LHL should know by now Democrats controlling both houses and pulling out is only a matter of time irregardless of what Singapore perspective. Even if bush does not pullout the Democrats will pull troops out, once they win the 2008 election.
So while LHL asserting the message of engaging in Asean. I find the rest of the message on iraq was just unnessary at this point. He doesn't have a Tact on public speaking...LKY never past down that gene to him on how to speak as a leader so that it is respecting n worth listening. -

these are 2 seperate issue, one is that he splatter himself in between republican and democrats issue. Bush alone cannot get anything done (although he can veto whatever is tabled in Congress) without the support of Congress and Congress is currently controlled by the Democrats. Bush's term will end in January 2009.
Tell me it makes sense to endear yourself to someone in such a position, at the expense of antagonising the next President...Smart move indeed.
