now that malaysia is to embark building oil pipes across its north, what will the million dollar elites do? i sure like to see how they justify their pay to counter the real impending threat.....
must say the pipe tunneling project is a brilliant idea, they'll practically swoop all the businesses jurong island now has....what's even smarter is to get the oil supplying countries (mid-east) and oil consuming countries (namely china) involved as stake holders......
i bet mathatir didn't see this one coming, this will be abdullah's legacy if he pulls it off....may take a decade to settle the quibble and corruption but it should work... -
Well, they could always make us a cheaper alternative, but not at their expense, of course. They will continue to draw top salaries.

Jurong island is an oil refinery, klutz!
And if I am not mistaken, one of the world biggest refinery.
Ranking at fourth or fifth biggest.
And that of a country with out natural resources.
Are you sore over the ministers pay or are you worried about the pipeline?

this is a recycled ideal which was abandon by thailand. If the Malacca Straits is safe,i believe oil companies will still prefer to use sea transport.
In the short term,it will not affect Jurong Island status.But we have to be aware those ambitious people there,in the long run,if we dont react,it might slowly take over Jurong Island.

another threat would emerge if the US and Europe succeed in "helium-3 mining" from the moon... then crude oil and fossil fuel will become a thing of the past.. and all the oil refineries will be turned into hip discotheques. -

Not easy. If the corruption compromises security and safety, we will see a mushroom ball of fire in the north. True, this pipeline and all the connecting infrastructures may take about 10-15 years to erect.
This is a huge expensive project. Investors may be concerned if they can recover project costs within 10-12 years after commissioning of the plants.
By then, fossil fuel may well become a secondary energy scource, substituted by other new types of energy.
Currently, there is a big urgency around the world on replacing fossil fuel because global warming is already happening.
As for China, I think it may no longer need to import oil. At least for a decade or so. There is current evidence to indicate there may be more oil in their seas and deserts than first hoped. China is also spending huge resources to look for alternative energy supplies.
For JI, surviving this slowly evolving energy business means having to reinvent its usefulness. The threat to its viability is real.
