since we can't solve the problem, might as well make some money out of itOriginally posted by robertteh:Only now you know the LTA is inefficient. Raise all the ERP fees to S$4.00 per entry or S$300.00 pm per citizen the traffic jam remains.
How to tell the world our ERP is successful and want to export our ERP. The world will be taken for a ride to pay for their so-called traffic expertise - pay more monies and still not solve the problem.
Well that is probably the reason for ERP at the start because when you put up ERP you will push the traffic to other non-ERP roads which will become just as congested and sooner or later we will need all roads will have to be ERP roads and then we get back to square one when despite paying ERP fees and increasing all the ERPs whenever there is congestion all roads are congested nevertheless with no effect on traffic.Originally posted by Kenashi:since we can't solve the problem, might as well make some money out of it![]()
no doubt its a factor.Originally posted by dakkon_blackblade:I think the high rate of accidents and resulting fatalities speaks volumes about the attitudes and aptitudes of Singaporean drivers...

They are the road planners and implementers and if the roads are full of congestions after collecting so much taxes where is the value-adding to citizens.Originally posted by Slipshade:So the Chief of LTA and TP has to take responsibility for how drivers and motorists behave on the roads? Come on, be realistic! >__>
x2Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:+ pedestrians and cyclists.
Frankly, nowadays they are worse. Cyclists cycle like the roads are theirs, pedestrians walk like the roads are owned by their grandpa.
All those safety features are useless and only serve to waste people's time when people don't bother to follow rules.
Why not? Common sense does not apply to a unique and special country which warrants "special" benchmarking standards...Originally posted by Slipshade:So the Chief of LTA and TP has to take responsibility for how drivers and motorists behave on the roads? Come on, be realistic! >__>
i heard from my prof in germany min speed 180 or 200 (cant remmeber)Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:At 90km/h for some roads, I don't think it's slow.
Maybe it's just me.
Let me tell you, for once, I don't fault or blame our government on matters such as this, and here (on a daily basis) are what bascially contributes GREATLY to accidents on our roads:Originally posted by Gazelle:It was recently made known that Singapore has the highest accident rate in the world for a developed nation. And I think I am also right to say that Singapore has the slowest speed limit for highway, and the most advanced and expensive road system and tools that most countries can only dream of.
And yet, after paying our road tax, ERP, COE, 1 people will die on the road every other day.
Statistic
Accident/day : 20.5
Injury/day : 27 people
fatality/day : 0.52
What is the problem?
wow, you listed out all the people i meet on road everyday!Originally posted by ShutterBug:Let me tell you, for once, I don't fault or blame our government on matters such as this, and here (on a daily basis) are what bascially contributes GREATLY to accidents on our roads:
>> people DO NOT SIGNAL - or signals at the last minute
>> INCONSIDERATE driving habits - eg. slowing down to stop without using
their hazard light to indicate intentions... same thing in carparks
>> IMPATIENCE - rushing across traffic junctions when light is already amber,
before light turns green, or beating red light, and most popular
tailgating
>> Switching lanes dangerously and or cutting across multiple lanes and
cutting into people's lane dangerously
>> Talking on the mobile phone while driving - some people whether using
a hands-free kit or not, they still don't know that their car is drifting into
another lane and slowing down below 80Kmh...
>> Speeding excessively and racing each other in cheap moddified Japanese
turbo-charged cars - WRX STi and EVOs are very commonly seen doing this
>> Drink Driving - needless to say more...but this is not likely a daily
occurence
By and large, most accidents are caused by the lack of Common Courtesy or Common Road Courtesy. In general, I am in the firm opinion that society in Singapore, lack greatly in Cultural Mannerisms - unrefined raw 'Me-First' mentality and attitude brought on by decades of 'No Free Lunch' governance. A system that basically tells you to handle your own sorry ass and problems, you die your business.
Hence, this is reflected when people drive on the roads here. This lack of and prohibition of people's RIGHTS to EXPRESSION here has boiled over into the way people "express" themselves on the roads. Indirect ventilation of what they were not allowed to express.. and the general high costs of living contributes to such behaviours as well.
In essence, there isn't enough time in a working day here to make enough for both a lifestyle and a living much to sky-rocketing living costs....
Didn't you read? TP 'pop' up during jams not to improve traffic flow but to BOOK errant motorists cutting into right-turning queues at the last min. Although it helps bring some justice to those who waited in line, it doesn't discourage others when they get off with a fine and a few demerit points...Originally posted by mistyblue:Well this is another reason to pay each minister a 100% increment to come out with a new solution :
slow down the speed,
increase ERP,
built more ERP gantries,
enforce higher COE,
put in heavier road tax,
raise the fines for every offense,
increase the bus and train fares and
maybe ban the pedestrian from walking on the road
That will solve everything such as prevent corruption, keep top 'talents' from going into private sector, stop our women from becoming maids in other countries and perhaps achieve world peace at the same time.
helicopter transportation?Originally posted by BillyBong:Didn't you read? Not to mention the fact that the presence of ANY TP will significantly SLOW DOWN OVERALL TRAFFIC.
Anyway, has the transport ministry reviewed the effectiveness of their speed cameras? Has it really reduced speeding accidents? Or has the accidents simply been re-distributed to other 'non-camera' monitored areas? Perhaps we should 'cameralise' the whole Singapore?
Perhaps helicopter transportation should be studied then...
Haven't you heard; how a child behaves reflects on how the child was brought up by the parents?Originally posted by alwaysdisturbed:and i couldn't agree more with you on your explaination. i feel its indeed whats going on here. but seems like the finger is pointed back at the govt for our culture which in turn caused these kind of behaviours.
