"On 1 January 2006, the government established the National
Research Foundation (NRF) to intensify national R&D spending,
provide resources and support to bolster private sector R&D
growth, and to invest in strategic R&D areas. Funds for public
sector R&D spending from FY2006 to FY2010 will increase to
$13.55 billion. Of this, $5.4 billion has been allocated to the
Agency for Science, Technology and Research, $1.05 billion
for academic research and $2.1 billion for the Economic
Development Board to promote private sector R&D. $5 billion
has been committed to the National Research Fund to be
managed by the NRF."
