The stractegic consequences of a bridge for the causeway!

There are many ways Dr. Mahatair could skin a lion,
building a bridge to replace the causeway is definately one of them! Have you seen the Malaysian authority is getting all ready to implement the plan, dredging the Strait of Johor now in all eagerness to start building a bridge!
Once the bridge is there, Malaysian navy frigates will be able to move freely and easily between the east coast and the west coast, giving them better coordination, more mobility without having to pass through Singapore water! The big size container ships may not be able to move under he bridge, but the small bum boats ferrying goods between the two ports in the southern tips of Johor may pose a challenge to PSA! This way to skin a cat is within our control, so are we going to give the greenlight to give them a chance to lay a knife under your throat?

What do u wanna do? reclaim land all the way up until u cover the straits???
Need i remind u that such a course of action will be a blatant transgression against international law which clearly stipulates that u cannot disrupt trade routes in any such ways... unless u argue that the johor straits is NOT a trade route since no ship has passed through it since the causeway was built oops... Don't think the ICJ in the Hague will be impressed though... But then again, removing all the sand will provide employment for the people of Sg... if they're willing to do it instead of letting banglas do it for them...
I do not believe in beggar-thy-neighbour... not because th results are not desirable, but because such policies cannot be sustained in the long run. Sooner or later, they are gonna wanna pull a fast one like this...
I frankly don't see how we can do anything but get used to it and try harder to retain cusomers and find new ones... And frankly, I think its military suicide to try and move a warship through the straits in wartime... its too narrow, too shallow and too east to mine and defend. -

and how are u gonna move the 20 foot container from a container carrier onto a bum boat on the sea???? telekinetic eye ball power????
BUT it begs... why malaysia wants the causeway replace so much........ hmmmm....... out of fear of SAF??? to slow down SAF advances into johor in the event of a war... so that MAF troops can have more time to rush down to defend johor????
Or maybe they fear that if there is high tension...with singapore... the MAF may not be able to form up in johor before SAF tanks rolls across the causeway??? so probably... if the causeway is now a bridge... they can blow it up and delay SAF's sudden strike???
Kind of a naive brain... if the above is the real reason why malaysia wants the causeway replace so desperately.... they obviously got baboons as CDF in MAF -
i believe maybe the bridge is more presentable as a structure to link two countries than a causeway...rather then any military factor.......maybe it is a way to skin a cat ........however it will be sucide(for the malaysian) to bomb the bridge in case of war as firstly our airforce will do the first striking together maybe with guards from chinooks......then territorial taking by the LST forces........if necessary.......get guards to control the southern shore of johore and then our unsung warrior (the combat engineer)jus bulid bridge can liao.........if they bomb the bridge........how they expect to come to singapore.........by sampan?.......their LSTs are sitting ducks....then if the 'u know who' gets involve.....Malaysia can fight two fronts and sing majulah singapura within two days.......
with my point i believe a new bridge is a more presentable structure then a old causeway.........wats ur opinion? -

Okok... I think military reasons should not affect the causeway design. It should be symbolic as it represents a cross-over into another country and our close historic ties with Malaysia. Military reasons forbidding a bridge is quite childish to me. -
exco.....sorry i think u are misquoting mi.......i did not say military reason forbidding the bridge and i did say the bridge is a more presentable structure than a causeway..........i jus say buliding the bridge because of or majorly with military reason will be unlikely..........y are u laughing at other pple's opinion......when this is a forum......i dun wish to quarrel...but pls have more respect in ur reply to those who gave their comment........ -
Haha. Sorry for giving you the wrong impression also, maybe i did not quote you correctly. I was laughing about the national anthem remark. I have edited my earlier post.
