It was reported on http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/275933/1/.html that Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew will be in Milan and Rome for a visit from 13-19 May. In Milan, Mr Lee will meet President of the Lombardy region, Mr Roberto Formigoni. In Rome, Mr Lee will attend the Citigroup International Advisory Board meeting. While in Rome, Mr Lee will also meet the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Prof Romano Prodi, Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Foreign Minister, Dr Massimo DÂ’Alema, Economic and Finance Minister, Prof Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa, as well as several Italian industrialists and bankers. He will be accompanied by Mrs Lee and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Now in the entire report above, it NEVER mentioned what the PURPOSE of the trip is. Since itÂ’s just after April, and IÂ’ll be looking forward to the taxes IÂ’ve got to pay to the SÂ’pore govt, itÂ’d be nice to know how hundreds of thousands of Singapore dollars would be spent on this one trip, and to what end (several 1st class tickets on SIA, many business/economy tickets, 5-star hotels, special security arrangements in Italy, domestic travel, hosting dinners for the hosts etc).
This is in response to how the leaders of USA, Australia, England, Canada have their overseas official-travel expenses scrutinised for misuse (see for egs. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20070509/tories_expenses_070509/20070509?hub=Politics, http://www.thestar.com/News/article/211127, http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23395956-details/%C3%BD%C3%BD336,000%20worth%20of%20travel%20expenses%20for%20civil%20servant%20paid%20to%20advise%20on%20saving%20money/article.do) and why such is [b]not the case in SÂ’pore.
Gosh knows that our ministers regularly fly left right and centre with a considerable entourage on what must be an annual multi-million SÂ’pore dollar travel-bill footed by the taxpayersÂ’ money. WhereÂ’s the accountability I wonder?

Who chalked up that amount?Originally posted by turdkenstien:I was working in a ministry around 5 years ago, and when I saw the amount that was chalked up for a 4 day trip to Australia, my eyes almost popped out, a whopping $64,000!
Assuming 5 people in total, they each spent an average of $12,800 for the trip each.Originally posted by turdkenstien:a minister and 3 or 4 of his lackeys if i am not mistaken
