Lets not assume anything, however, I'd say there will be a substantial number of Locals and PRCs who will take flight for obvious reasons...Originally posted by Spartans:If Singapore is to go to war...
Will the China-born 'talents' help to defend Singapore? Or will they just run back to China instead?
Many have become Singapore citizens and PR.
How about you asking your malaysian fellows in singapore this question ?Originally posted by Spartans:If Singapore is to go to war...

Religion will answer that question for youOriginally posted by curryman:many singaporeans have malaysian relatives and many malaysians have singaporean relatives.
It is very hard to tell between a singaporean and a malaysian. Most malaysian chinese will side singapore rather than malaysia.
Some ministers and CEOS and top posts pple in Singapore were or are malaysians.
How to segregate between the two?
This is the problem. When the war comes the rich will lose all their wealths while the poor only their singlets but ministers their millions.Originally posted by soul_rage:hmm.. in the 1st place, will singaporeans fight for Singapore?
Sometimes I would think that if I fight for Singapore, I am just fighting to help LHL and his ministers keep their million dollar salaries
If you don't want to fight for the government....Originally posted by ShutterBug:Personally, I will have a hard time convincing myself with enough reasons to fight for this "counrty"...
i doubt the ministers will leave Singapore, i think this is only a perception we had on them, they are working hard for the development of Singapore and somemore we here are critising their hard works.Originally posted by robertteh:Yes, what you said is true. The foreigners who became Singaporeans will realize that we are too small a place to defend or seek refuge so they would definitely run away back to where they came. The rich people would also run and ministers and their children may run too because some of them have bought overseas properties for themselves and their children as a contingent home in case any disasters strike.
It will only be the original Singaporean citizens born and bred here who would stay and fight to defend against any external aggressions.
But then think again, the Singaporeans are being sacrificed by the government over the years to foreign in the name of globalization so many of them have become quite demoralized and they may change their loyalty over time too and refuse to stay on and fight. They may run up north to Malaysia or down south to Batam.
That is why citizens have been telling the ministers not to be too short-sighted in promoting everything foreign. Do so only carefully where their presence and their specific talents are needed by us to feed our growth.
but why ? ... ASEAN is not a military alliance .... (some say not yet, but it'll never come to that, just watch) ....Originally posted by mancha:Its not whether Singapore will go to war.
Singapore will only be at war if attacked.
Attacked directly or indirectly.
Attacked directly.
Most citizens will be aroused naturally to defend the country.
Some will think of running away or at least stay out of sight and let others do the fighting.
Attacked indirectly.
i.e., there is a distance impending danger. e.g. an ASEAN country is attacked militarily by "outside forces".
Singapore will have to send a contingent to the coalition defending ASEAN.
This will comprise of active NSF and some key reservists.
Hypocrisy is now too thick for comfort. While talking about building an inclusive society all the policies seem to be implemented to benefit only or mostly the rich e.g. all the developments are taking place mostly around the rich men's areas allowing them to put up their properties for enbloc sales while such will not be allowed for HDB blocks.Originally posted by citymax:i doubt the ministers will leave Singapore, i think this is only a perception we had on them, they are working hard for the development of Singapore and somemore we here are critising their hard works.
We need to stand united together to face all the dificulties and obstacles in front of us, each of us has a role to play, so if we are really being call upon. We will defend our home, our loved ones and most of all our country.
As for the foreigners/ PRs, do you think they will leave after seeing their loved ones killed in the war, the ans is a big No. Why? you can go and think abt it.
of course China has no intention of "invading" other countries ....Originally posted by justdoit77:I am really puzzled why people talk about war between china and singapore.
singapore has no intention to enlarge its territory by invading china and china never have the intention of invading the neighboring countries, not to mention singapore which is an island located far far away.
Is it because they want to show people that they are not racist by verbally attacking chinese from china.
Remote but possible scenario.Originally posted by Fatum:but why ? ... ASEAN is not a military alliance .... (some say not yet, but it'll never come to that, just watch) ....
if some Malaysians or Bruneians or Fillipinos get ejected by the People's Liberation Army from their respective spratleys islets when China makes a move, should we help them ? .... will we help them ? ...
of all these countries, the only one with the balls to make any sort of move against the Chinese ... Brunei ? ... ermmm .... the Phillipines ? ... they do not have an airforce to speak of, and can barely hold onto their southern provinces, what can they do against the PLAN, the PLAAF ? ... Malaysia ? ... they are only good at rattling Singapore's cage (if even that) ...Originally posted by mancha:Remote but possible scenario.
Sequence of events. History always repeats itself.
PRC make a surprise move and seize the Spratley Islands. Ousting Vietnam, The Phillippines, Malaysia, and Brunei.
World spouts strong condemnation.
Most nations do, because not doing so will make them look bad.
Strongly urge PRC to return the islands and withdraw. Ha Ha Ha!
Vietnam, The Phillipines, Malaysia and Brunei, mobilise their armies individually, posturing.
dun forget, sg is a hum ji country..Originally posted by mancha:Remote but possible scenario.

The USA also send a battle group with an aircraft carrier to standby in the vicinity.
Singapore activates recall, and gets on standby, with much publicity.
While rethorics on PRC need to withdraw continues, the United Nations Security Council, dither on whether to convene a council to call for the PRC to withdraw.
This will take quite a while, just to get organised.
Once the UNSC gets started, it will take yet a longer while to get to an agreement on anything.
In the meantime, PRC gets settled in the Spratleys and ASEAN gets impatient.
Singapore won't sit around and do nothing.
LHL will try to use Singapore's reputation with the PRC to mediate, and will probably be treated like a pi sai.
Should the Spratley erupt into a conflagration, Singapore will play a support role to the ASEAN members, it will have to.
that doesnt mean that Sg is a hum ji country, we have to admit we are a small country and the limitation of deploying our troops while we defend Sg, if we are being attacked, i think the best way is to take over the conquerer land.Originally posted by club18:dun forget, sg is a hum ji country..
everything will follow wat big brother says.
Sg will prob never get into a war unless its territories are concern..
it prob be like the rest of the world, condemn and make alot of noise.
it would be a mediator btw the ASEAN countries and china but even if it were to escalate to war,
sg also will not send troops.
in other words, unless some1 directly attack us, we will not engage in armed battles.

Let these China talents go protect the ruling party lor, since the ruling party so love and support the China talents. AS for us, we protect ourselves and love ones, don't need to care a damn about the ruling party since they don't even protect us, I mean our rice bowls.Originally posted by Spartans:If Singapore is to go to war...

there is no reason to suspect the willingness of immigrants singaporean to stay and fight for singapore and it is pure naivity to assume that "only the original Singaporean citizens born and bred here who would stay and fight to defend against any external aggressions."Originally posted by robertteh:Yes, what you said is true.
