Will the China-born 'talents' help to defend Singapore? Or will they just run back to China instead?

i see ur msg and i feel u r toking rubbish, and finding excuse for ur coward behavior. Pls use the word urself and not US..coz i not the kind of person as you r.Originally posted by soul_rage:Actually, my hypothetical question is, if you are able to evacuate your loved ones and family out of Singapore, and have savings elsewhere which you can go to, will you stay and fight for Singapore?
For me, its simple, I can't envision staying back to fight. Fight for what? For those ministers? For a country that is run more like a corporation? There is no love here, for this is just a piece of an island. There is no identity here.
We are an OPEN country, that local citizens and foreigners all enjoy the SAME benefits, but yet are treated differently (for eg. Local citizens must serve NS to protect this place while foreigners only get to enjoy the benefits)
This is what Gazelle said. He sees no need to protect Singaporeans from globalisation, and that everyone (regardless of race, language, religion, and NOW nationality) should enjoy the same opportunities.
So why should we give up our lives for a place who doesn't care about us?
*shrugs* fighting means you are brave meh?Originally posted by citymax:i see ur msg and i feel u r toking rubbish, and finding excuse for ur coward behavior. Pls use the word urself and not US..coz i not the kind of person as you r.

Well, its fair enough. lots of ppl dont really understand the term of patriotism. We all seeking a comfortable place and wordly things. Sometimes it can be a hard choice , sometimes for the better of ur next generation u sacrifice urself for the greater good. Or live on now n think back that maybe u shouldve done something to change what is about to happen. Anyways maybe one day u will know what is real patriotism lo. Retiring old and happy in some other place is not a bad idea too.Originally posted by soul_rage:True enough, note that I do not laugh at your spirit, but instead applaud your willingness to stand for your country.
However, I do not understand the term patriotism, coz I do not feel any sense of belonging to this place.
To me, its just a place to make money, and then find somewhere else to retire to for a better life
PR and citizens have to server NS for your info, not allowed to run away.Originally posted by Spartans:If Singapore is to go to war...

U help him while he helps the country is a form of patriotism too.Originally posted by soul_rage:Thanks, we actually see each other's opinions fairly.
I am more mercenary, coz at present, I am working hard to ensure I have a good living before considering other things. Yet I would like to one day be able to help fellow Singaporeans whom require help.
I don't know what is patriotism, but I believe there are many ways to help Singaporeans. I don't know about the concept of nationhood. I only understand what is called a fellow Singaporean.
nay of coz I won't, that's real sillyOriginally posted by BadzMaro:U help him while he helps the country is a form of patriotism too.So dont worry, it can come in many forms. as long as u not plotting the destruction of SG or the assination of ur PM.. lol!
They will be the first to run. They may have become PRS or Singaporeans but they are not born here. To them Singapore is just another country to stay and earn a living.Originally posted by Spartans:If Singapore is to go to war...

Battle of Belleau WoodOriginally posted by eagle:A sergeant once said: "I think Singapore will only win a war if we fight in either Tekong or Marsling" (and perhaps Lim Chu Kang)
The courage is in facing death while trying to stay alive. Nobody go to war wanting to die. Of course you are unlucky if you were killed, but you are probably luckier than those who lose their legs and arms. It takes courage to face all such risks, not to die.Originally posted by soul_rage:like I said, what is so brave about dying in a war?
And who is the worse coward? The one that doesn't dare to try to move to another place to start life anew, or the one that dares to uproot himself for the sake of the people he loves?
yeah and i will fight for my browniebaobao and my sgforums too....Originally posted by fudgester:If you don't want to fight for the government....

well its up to you. You still do not have the right to call others cowards.Originally posted by sgdiehard:The courage is in facing death while trying to stay alive. Nobody go to war wanting to die. I have no problem with people who want to migrate for a better life, they migrate so that their children don't have to learn chinese, don't have to tahan the pressure here, don't have to serve NS, don't like PAP...... But uproot yourself to start a new life somewhere during peace time, give up your citizenship, bring all the people who care for you with you, so that nobody will miss you here.
But doing that when war is imminent and if you have the responsibility to stay and fight, then you are running away from your responsibility as a citizen to help fellow singaporeans, your neighbours would have one man less to help in case the building is on fire, your platoon would have one man short whom yr commander might not find replacement in an emergency, your section mates would have to start building rapport with somebody new....you break the law, you betray the trust of your friends, neighbors and army comrades. They need you, probably only and especially during emergency, but you run away, at the critical moment. It is your wish, no doubt, but it is also right to describe such people as coward. Of course, if you never had such relationship with people around you, then when you leave nobody would miss you. It is rather sad, isn't it?
There are plenty of islands on this planet, big and small, but only here do I have my friends, my neighbours, my classmates, my golf partners, my coffee kake.....most, if not all of them would be around in Singapore, war or peace, run by pap or wp, at least in my generation.
Actually you are so wrong.Originally posted by sgdiehard:Of course, if you never had such relationship with people around you, then when you leave nobody would miss you. It is rather sad, isn't it?
Obvious right?Originally posted by soul_rage:I also don't see patriotism as EQUALS to stay and fight. I think that is a very shallow and narrow way of viewing patriotism.
typical "duan zhang qu yi", take a sentence from a book and think you know the whole story.Originally posted by Icemoon:Obvious right?
Even Lim Bo Seng and Force 136 ran away. They did not stay to be killed.
Edit: If I'm not wrong, Lim ran away leaving his family in Singapore.
I guess you are suffering because this is not happening. You are full of hatred, really bad for you. Go and get a life in the new place. You made your choice, good or bad only you know. But if you keep coming on here to run down sillypore, does seems to me you are not doing well.Originally posted by Coquitlam:If there is a war....don't think there will be much of Sillypore left over...I'm sure the enemy would strike Sillypore with one fell stroke so that there will be little or no retaliation.
Besides, we ex citizens will be watching from over where we are...kekekeke
No need to write so much and presume I dunno the history.Originally posted by sgdiehard:typical "duan zhang qu yi", take a sentence from a book and think you know the whole story.![]()
Lim Bo Seng was actively raising funds for the resistance of the Japanese invaders, and recruiting members for Force 136, but he left when the japanese occupied singapore, to avoid being capture, ONLY TO RETURN to Malaysia in 1943 to continue his fight against the japanese invaders. He was later caught and died after much tortures and imprisonment. A monument was built to remember him, with funds from HK.
It is outrages and completely out of context to compare Lim Bo Seng, whose patriotism and sacrifice are remembered for generations, with the like of soul_rage whose intention was solely to run away from a war, deserting his country and fellow citizens, for his own safety.
Force 136 is a secret organisation established by the British war cabinet to fight behind enemy lines and their area of operations included the whole Far East. If any members were to leave Singapore, they would be heading for another area for the same bloody war, facing the same risk of death.
to those who don't know, you tarnish the reputation of Lim Bo Seng and Force 136, but to those who know, you only show your stupidity and ignorance.
S h i t, no wonder the PAP only want to teach the people the history of Singapore, even this, many obviously failed.![]()
