Point your finger squarely at our government... and soon some day, they will end up implementing another Employment Law or Act, to mandate employers to hire MORE locals than FTs...On top of that, I think they may soon even have to start a "Please Don't Discriminate Obese Employees/Applicants" Act.

You are quite right about the need to pass laws to correct their own policy errors.
The ministers were the ones in the 1980s who started the discriminations among employers against hiring older workers. They told employers not to implement the seniority wage system and following that newspapers everyday kept playing the tune that older workers are more expensive to employ.
Now they realize their mistake as employers will take this opportunity to stop older employees from working or go for early retirements/
So the ministers now have to pass another law to force employers not to discriminate against older workers.
The same thing will happen to their current open-door policy to encourage employers to take in foreign workers even for common routine jobs.
So the newspapers will be playing up all the "needs of foreign workers" until all the employers began to turn to China and India for clerks and technicians which are easily available among our own workforce.
Locals are now being sidelined by employers just because of such one-track policy implementation.
Welfarism is bad but constant harping of dangers of welfarism has led to all ministries and departments recovering all costs of services resulting in taxpayers getting short-changed.

Some companies do outplacement exercise just to get rid of 50+ workers,in less than half year,they get in young and energetic FTs.The cycle continued cos they wanted to cut cost.
End result is a lot of meddle age local jobless at home.Sigh!

Those does not really fit the description of the word 'Foreign Talent'. I suppose the more appropriate jargon to use is 'Foreign Skilled Worker'. With investment swarming in and foreign companies establishing their base in Singapore, the manpower for the company operational needs may be a ballpark figure.
1. Are our own workforce willing to fill the vacancy of the jobs generated by the oversea company investing here such as production workers?
2. Can our manpower fills the vacancy of the projected number of jobs created?
The open-door policy cannot be a foolproof solution yet at least it can alleviate the intense competition face in the rise of China and India cheap labour cost in order to make Singapore attractive for oveasea company seeking to lower their cost of operation.

I only see that the I.T assistant girl daily job is to assist the I.T administrator job and he is from Malaysia too.Haha, and i think his job also can be done by our local I.T dip holders.And not forgetting our technicans, engineers...
almost more than 90% are F.T.And to my surprise almost more than half of them are getting PR already and are ready to get their red i.c sooner or later.I really need to ask our government, why are there so many F.T in Singapore getting the jobs which our locals can do???
They are not consider top professional jobs but common jobs which doesnt fit what the government keep telling us, we need Foriegn 'Talents' to keep us afloat!!!Anyone here got any others F.T experience do share in this thread!!!Thanks for reading....!!! -

Once upon a time locals were spoiled for choice when finding work. Some sectors with high employee turnover rate, employers are allowed to hire a percentage of foreigners.
This is the beginning of some problems we see today.
With too many foreigners in a particular sector, locals donÂ’t feel comfortable working in that sector anymore. Soon, almost all jobs in that sector are taken up by foreigners. Then, payroll dept also outsourced to the country where theses foreigners come from. Certain sectors even have training centers set up in that country where the majority of the workers come from, then followed by managers, GM, managing directors.
Now locals aged above 40 have difficulty finding jobs. This issue is still unsolved and
MOM is talking about signing legislation to rehire retirees by 2012. Why not now?
Meanwhile, more locals are displeased with the govt employment policies as well as itÂ’s reluctance to change the employent acts which are biased towards employers.
We can expect that more people will commit suicides because of financial problems. I wonder what cause the scholar ministers so long to make decision. Or are they scoreless ministers?
They canÂ’t blackmail people to re elect the ruling party. In 2011. -
If you think you're better then migrate to a better country which pays you higher than what locals are getting or paying you. That is globalisation. No point lamenting on such issues. If companies from other nations gonna pay u in US dollars, then go for it~ At least you can think of saving up or even promotion if you are better and more experienced.

If we don't whine and complain almost everything under the sun via letters to either govt, cad, case or police.
Than we would already be able to accept more workloads and yet expecting lesser income.
Those F.T are here because they have their own reasons, and the fact they are more hardworking than us as a matter of fact, and THEY DON'T COMPLAIN AS MUCH AS WE SINGAPOREANS DO.
Either we continue complain, they will still bring and allow more F.T in, or we sit down and do some self-reflecting, are we just going to sit back, do nothing, complain and not to improve ourselves to prepare for the influx of F.T in 2008?
If we keep complaining, there's only 2 words - Impending Doom (Mass Unemployement) -

Globalization is good, but to a certain extent based on the SIZE of our country and population, there can be such a situation as 'over doing it'....
All previous policies starting from their Family Planning of Stop at Two - now what do we have? Wanting in local births...
All these so called "Good for us" policies, where did the 'good' go to? Yes we progressed and advanced, where did the money go to? Do we see LESSER cardboard and drink can picking old folks today? No, we see MORE of them!
All the money they are sitting on top of, and Hospitals are lacking in beds? And a manpower problem in Polyclinics? Medisave cannot cover Cataract Surgeries to save an aging person's eye sight?
You tell me, what the HELL is all this...? More Good Years???

The only thing our dear gahmen said is to ask us to upgrade. So what if we upgrade, they still give the jobs to the foreigners. It depends on the type of industry you are referring to, unless you specifically referring to certain industry. In most technological-driven industry, acquiring cheaper labour cost benefits the company in the long run. Safety matters and quality of workers cannot be lump together if the company has a good safety culture in place and abide by law and regulation in practice.
Last but not the least have it occured to you that if the most qualified workers in a developed society are willingly to do the job for a minimum sum then there is no need for company to relocate their manufacturing plant to China or India. -

True, but try looking from their point of view too.
They at times have communication barrier with us Singaporeans too, thus they have to work double hard to catch up with us.
If they are living in Singapore while they are working, how much can they save anyway? Don't they have to pay their rental too?
Don't they need to buy meals everyday to eat?
How much can they send back after cutting away the expenses?

They refuse to change, to upgrade, and learn new things to earn a living, instead they accept the fact that Singapore is too progressing too fast, they can't catch up.
But hey, if we were to think back, how many times has govt hinted and gave us promotions and post advertisments to encourage us to upgrade?

Health, thousands of times, govt encourage us to lead a healthy life style, but how many of us really heed their advice?
In fact it should be we taking charge of our own health, govt don't even need to care nor help us, nor are they even obliged to help us in any way, since it's none of their business in the first place.
If we derserve to be help, than look around our surroundings, how many people are smoking despite govt keep increasing the cost of it?
How many really make it an effort to go exercise and keep a healthy life-style.
Don't give me the excuse of hectic work-life.
