The statistics has been hammering us for over a decade and we have failed to close the gap at all. If it isn't obvious enough, the failure of the Govt to nurture local entrepreneurship for decades is the reason why we have failed to catch up.
You do know that one of the hidden statistics in the competitive ranking is the fact that the average Singaporean generates less cash than their counterparts elsewhere despite working the same number of hrs?
