too harsh you become blind with hatred and too weak you become a jellyfish. I believe that there should be moderatiion. not afraid to support the government on a good and constructive idea and not afraid to challenge when necessary.Originally posted by hawkeye1819:That is the other question. Oppose with eyes closed or be constructive? Some people find SDP just nice and others too weak. Some people find WP just nice but the others too weak or too harsh.
CSJ isn't an MP.Originally posted by Trump_Card:CSJ is good opposition MP ... Ppl everywhere even in forums have a bad impression of him because the local media paint him in a bad light...He is eloquent and civilised in contrast to what people think he is...

At least, he still beats the death-awaiting fascist who, when he runs out of ideas, never ceases to entertain you with his racist rhetorics and other bigoted take on things...Originally posted by hawkeye1819:CSJ isn't an MP.Yep, he is eloquent and civilised at times. But also at times, he has very strong actions and very harsh and insulting words for PAP leaders. As opposition supporter, I love to hear him. But I think he could be indigestible to neutrals.
Singaporeans will whine and rant but thankfully most of them elect the party that is most able to ensure the continued prosperity of Singapore. Opposition party members are like many in these forums: kpkb about everything under the sun but add little value to the economy.Originally posted by :I want to see opposition members who can not just kpkb but also suggest and provide credible alternative alternative policies to the ones proposed in parliament.
Any fool can kpkb that this is bad and that one no good but cannot propose better alternatives. These kind of opposition people are a complete waste of time!My old grandma can do (kpkb) better!![]()

So oftentimes, the poor quality of the opposition is the reason why the PAP dominance is so absolute.............
Ans 01 - Sorry.... I've enough of ONE party system. If the Opp became 1 united party..... what make you think it wouldn't be another PAP in the making. To me, 4-5 Opp party will be the best. Not too many, not too little.Originally posted by hawkeye1819:Hey guys/gals, I think it's been a long time since anyone asked this question:
"What kind of opposition do we want to see?"
Forummers have got younger compared to 10 years ago and there could be a new mindset.
1. Do we want to see opposition comprise of one united party? I.e. merger of all parties into Workers' Party or a new party with new name.
2. Do we want to see several opposition parties, each with their own style? Like SDA/NSP very moderate, WP moderate, SDP confrontational and maybe JBJ's new Reform Party moderately confrontational. Offering S'poreans more choices.
3. Or do we want to see somewhere in between, a strong party to fight PAP but have other parties act as a check on PAP and the strong opposition?
agreed. SDP 100% not ok.Originally posted by crazy monkey:wp is okie. chiam see tong ok also![]()

most of them elect? The last I heard, 50% of locals didn't even get to vote, not because they were ineligible, but because they lived in "walkover" zones.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Singaporeans will whine and rant but thankfully most of them elect the party that is most able to ensure the continued prosperity of Singapore. I dissagree. I find the SDP website, for one, greatly dissappointing. It gave me the idea that him and his party is opposing for the sake of opposing (like everything also oppose regardless of good or bad).Originally posted by Trump_Card:CSJ will make a good opposition MP ... The above is just the attitude, unrealistic saying from an arrogant and immature mind. Not to worry, people, his words don't carry weight. It is clear he is merely here to quarrel, to ridicule and offend people.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Singaporeans will whine and rant but thankfully most of them elect the party that is most able to ensure the continued prosperity of Singapore. ... but the GRCs is a double edged sword if the opposition managed to win one of them the party would have quite a no of members in the parliament in one shot. wp was close to doing tat in the last election. it could happen one day. the credibility and quality of the opposition member is important also, they must be good men and women so ppl want to vote for them.Originally posted by Melvin Tan:Hi,
The people and voters should decide what kind of opposition Singaporeans want.
However, I feel that the present electoral system tampered with by the PAP government over time favours bigger political parties.
Hence, personally, I would prefer opposition parties try to consolidate into two and not more than three. There are parties that practically run with less than 20 members, even 10. Running an election or daily party operations to a minimum standard requires more than this amount of manpower/womanpower.
