if i am not wrong.. FPDA exercise is currently on.... F-18 hornets could be from RMAF or RAAF... either way... they are on exercise with RSAF... else... they long got shot down... much less still got time play formation flying...Originally posted by bernugget:Been looking out for military jets n equipment in our airspace, these past few days, FA/18s were spotted in formation, could be american or probably...
our reported purchase and delivery of apaches in april has made me make the extra effort to look out for them, so far i only saw 1 in flight, not near enough to identify the colours though.... what have u all seen?
Gotta be kidding.... get arrested for plane spotting? Says who? If Mindef is so worried about plane spotting, they can paint all the aircraft with the "invisible" paint and no one will be able to see the plane fly passOriginally posted by gUms:Did u noe plane spotting can get u arrested

The Brit clown who got themselves arrested in Greece because they got invited into the bast with the conditions of "no photography" and yet they wilfully took photos.Originally posted by gUms:Did u noe plane spotting can get u arrested
Only in RSAF TV advertisments and Pioneer Magazines. Nope. Apaches won't be in Singapore not for a couple more months. Have patience.Originally posted by bernugget:anyone here spotted apaches around?
our current standing order is 20 apache leh... double it and we will end up with 40 apache... more then super pumas..... against wat foe do we need 40 apache??Originally posted by Joe Black:Only in RSAF TV advertisments and Pioneer Magazines. I do however have a thought... perphas RSAF should consider expanding the fleet to twice the current ordered number for greater anti-tank, and even anti amphibious landing tasks. Perhaps the French/German consortium can convince Mindef why RSAF should get the Eurocopter Tigers to complement Apaches... hee hee...
The Apaches though good are NOT battletested in tropical environment. I would not say that they would render the T91 impotent. However, it would be a good countermeasure against their MBTs.Originally posted by RAIDER:Wondering would our so called "tank-killer" Apaches render the malaysian T91 impotant?
ya, but gunships/attack helos make a hell of difference when it comes to fire fight - be it tank killing or ground support. 20 Apaches is a start, but a little low in number. 30 sounds better. BTW, 20 Chinooks is more than enuff in my opinion. As Chinooks will not be the only transport helo in RSAF inventory.Originally posted by Viper52:IIRC I seen figures that states our attack helo requirement is 20 and the Chinooks was 30...or was that the other way round?
20 Apaches is sufficient considering that they're not our only way to knock out tanks, theres still the Spike, plinking with LGBs...etc etc
Well, 30 Apaches and 20 Chinooks sounds more appropriate
I've got my numbers sorted out now, the requirement is for 20 heavy transports and 30 attack. So we're still short of that numbers in both depts(16 Chinooks delivered/on order and 20 Apaches on order).
yeah, perhaps George doubya will do a 1 to 1 swap for RSAF as gratitude and goodwill to Singapore for showing support to American's war on terror !!!
PS. anyone read the recent article in flight International that US is interested in our first 6 Chinooks? These aircraft were built to CH-47D standard(while later RSAF orders were Super Ds), with provisions for the large fuel tanks, precisely like the standard US Army model. Reason being they need attrition replacements after Anaconda.
Seems like a deal would benefit both sides, we get to standardise our fleet, they get the attrition replacements. Probably we'll be able to use the Ds as part payment for more Super Ds...
AFAIK the Aussie pilots are quite well regarded in professsional circles, and are known to fly very well. Thats why they get invited for mulitilateral exercises with the US quite often. However I once heard from a US ANG personnel that they(the ANG guys) didn't know people could take that much beer and stay alive!Originally posted by Shotgun:Those bugs would be here for about 3 weeks right? I wonder how are the Aussie pilots faring...
