At least eight conscientious objectors were imprisoned, and 12 others continued to serve their sentences during 2006. All were members of the banned Jehovah's Witnesses religious group. There were no moves towards offering an alternative to military service.

you live in a country, you abide by their laws.. you do not pick and choose which laws you want to follow...
besides, there are non-violent roles in NS.. like a medic

Jehovah witness, does exist and they spend their NS time in DB, but i don't know how long, they will be jailed up. but they have more freedom than the inmate, and i am surprised that you never even know about them

Jehovah's Witnesses cannot salute the state flag. All have to serve DB no matter what.

I realised your good intentions of saving bandwidth and disk space, but if you want to be understood, please make an effort to learn good English. By cutting and pasting a whole lot of crap, then making 3-5 words sentences hardly puts forth any point.
A good way to learn English is to read more Straits Time newspaper. Oops. Bad idea!! You are better off reading reuters, BBC and AFP on the net. -

JWs serve 3 years in Detention Barracks. Treated very differently from the "regular" inmates. In the days before SFI, they were the gardeners, cooks and cleaners for the DB camp. Dunno if they still are cooks now. Given some freedom to roam around within a certain area in the day. If I remember correctly, they do get nap time and stuff.
They sorta have a de facto leader among them, appointed by the MPs. Kinda like thier IC. Does the cook duty roster etc... -

I think we should respect them for their beliefs and not persecute them by throwing them in detention barracks. -
Well this is a though call on the part of the government. Which I think is a pretty fair arrangment.
Its like if you want to choose a faith that forbids you to salute the state flag and wear uniform etc... fine, think the govt has done ok, to repect the freedom to worship.
But they don't go scott free either. They go to "jail" for a slightly longer period than NS, and thus without some of the perks of active NS personnel. (No that its that good, but better than nothing) -

Then again, who are we to question their faith. If they have something somewhere in thier faith that says cannot serve, then give them an alternative . They already lose substiantial personal freedom in those 3 years.
From what I hear from a friend in provost, they are the free labour in DB anyway. Not mistreated, but they don't sleep around all day either. Kinda like the odd job labourers in DB. -
