Why the hell are fishermen floating around a life-firing area anyway!? they'll be bloody asking for it if an accident happens.
Not that Sg doesn't wish to be considerate or intends to be reckless, but really... why get in the way?! The stupidity of it all baffles me... You don' stand in front of your neighbour's gate just when he's in the process of reversing his car! -

KL military may probe S'pore live-firing exercise
KUALA LUMPUR - The Malaysian Armed Forces may send a team to Singapore to investigate claims by villagers near Danga, Johor, that the Republic's military is carrying out a live-firing exercise which is endangering them.
Deputy Defence Minister Mohamad Shafie Apdal said if need be, the ministry would also send a letter of protest to the Singapore Government.
'If the team finds some elements of danger which will affect nearby Malaysian villagers, we will make a protest against the exercise through proper channels including through Wisma Putra,' he said, referring to the Foreign Ministry.
Datuk Mohamad Shafie was commenting on claims by 700 villagers of Kampung Sungai Melayu that the exercise, which had started two weeks ago, may be dangerous for them. It also posed a threat to fishermen along the Straits of Johor, they said.
They said the exercise is being carried out on Singapore's Sarimbun and Pergam islands near Gelang Patah in Johor. --New Straits Times -

Probably a repeat of the case in the 1980s when the Malaysian press and small time politicians raised a big stink about how SAF live firing exercises were dropping mortar bombs into the water very close to the M'sian shoreline. Cue same old diatribes and rhetoric from the same 2 groups mentioned above.
Subsequent investigations revealed actual cause of explosions in the water were actually due to the same fishermen who started the accusations dynamiting fish illegally. When the explosions were heard and the authorities came knocking, the fishermen accused Singapore of dropping mortar bombs...
Of course, there was never any apology forthcoming for the accusations/insults, from the press or two-bit politicians. But like we expected any better? -

no lah, seriously, SAF defines its life fire exercises VERY clearly, even TV also got show sometimes, so why they can't keep out of the way... and if the malaysians remain on the correct side of the border, i dun see how they can get killed... -

I'm against using WMDs but there are many ways to kill your neighbour's plants if u think hard enough. Agent Orange is last generation's weapon and it isn't even very effective.

after the last anthrax scare after 9-11, it should be clear to all that it is not as hard as one migh think to make stuff like anthrax...
in fact, if anybody follows the NY times, it is actually quite easy to make germs but germs for military purposes... thats a different question... any country with a moderately sophisticated bio-tech industry can culture micro-organisms of any kind given the raw materials, equipment and funding... its definitely not as easy as making explosives with fertilizer but its not as hard as making a nuke either...
germs can be more easily acquired than uranium and plutonium (NY times reports that u can even buy them via mail-order from US with very little restrictions) and u don't need to buy a lot to make germ weapons... just one sample that u can culture into many many more...
the problem is not with making the germs, but with treating it with the delivery agent... u can't just spray germs and expect it to work the way u want it...
stuff like anthrax spores especially need to be treated with a special delivery agent to reduce the static charge between them so the don't stick to each other and "float" better... thats why it showed up in a white, fine, powdery form... so people will breath it in and die, not just land on their skin and itch... (pulmonary anthrax kills quickly, other forms are not as deadly...)
so think about it... how hard is it to (a) make germs, (b) keep them safe till needed and (c) deliver them effectively... my answer? not very...
but i wouldn't be interested in anthrax anyway... i don't agree with germ warfare... its repulsive and impossible to contain... its too unpredictable to be effectively used... at least nukes u can control the kiloton yield and estimate the damage from ground zero.
mother nature on the other hand, can be a quite a bitch if u mess with her... -
