People invited them and prepared lunch, waited for hours courteously, yet they never turn up....
its very clear to me that their foriegn minister is hardly a gentlemen and certainly reflects badly on the image of all malaysians....

anyway... kudos to our singapore FM.... waiting for an uncouth barbarian on an empty stomach for hours is not easy... and in the end still showing so much courtesy and good diplomatic manners is clearly something we singaporeans should be proud of.

Guys since we got NEWWATER technology with us so for the next decade or so we dun really need water supply from malaysia right!!
Normally malaysia use cutting off water supply as a threat now if they got some problem with singapore what thing will they use to threat us again.Sure not water since they know we are capable of this technology.

it seems to me that both sides are not behaving in a gentlemanly manner so we really shouldn't let nationalistic belligerence get in the way of our better judgement.
don't believe everything u read in the straits times for god sake! but don't believe eveything u read across the causeway either... neither government is being completely open and nor are the presses even trying to be objective!
enough damage can be done by reporting facts selectively. Don't read the Emns telegram! You'll only make the Bismarcks on both sides happy. -

This can only be done if there is quid pro quo or either party bends over backwards... both possibilities are remote now so the only other way is to leave it. -
i don't see why we need a new bridge, but then again, i never travel to MY by bridge.........
if they bring PT-91 over, they'll get stuck between every HDB building and break all the roads and kanna clobbered at every street while they are stuck. (though i doubt this issue will excalate into war)
personally, i feel that skipping the prepared lunch was a bit too much, i mean, its like slapping your host in the face if they prepare lunch for you and you go of galavanting somewhere else for lunch.

NewH2O is not the final solution for Spore as it is only covers fraction of Spore population consumption, but nevertheless at least we hv a bargain platform wif M'sia.
M'sia is flicker minded abt this subject, the issue here is not abt price. It is abt face.
They want Spore to "kaw tow" to them. They want us to beg them.
Remember when Spore announced the NewH2O, M'sia reply was to the extend that we (MÂ’sia) are always good neighbor, water was never an issue, we (MÂ’sia) always sell water to internal states like PenangÂ…etc. That was not the attitude before the announcement & now that Spore are back to the table on the issue. They feel great to be on the bargain side. S**K MY BIG FAT C**K I say f*** them. 
I suggest we continue to develop good water treatment until the day of we are independent. Then we can stop buying water from them.
I am not planning to suck PIG'S cock... Rather drink my own piss.

The water issue...I simply see it as a supply and demand. If we can make our own water cheaper than their selling price, why should we buy from them?? Also not as if we not willing to pay more, but at a reasonable price.
Previously is bcos we no choice, and they hold it as a noosh around our neck, and wanted to jack up their price.
But once new H20 is announced, they must have realised they miscalucated their move, and now trying to "save face" ?? -

assuming a 100 percent recovery... we will never run out of water...
at 75 percent recovery ... we would triple our water supply!! more then we need...
at 50 percent recovery... we would meet all our water requirement... as the supply is doubled...
And to top it up... if we got a desalination plant, that will be useful in topping up watever water shortfall that may be lost from the system due to evaporation or any other reason... which makes them unrecoverable.... this combination will give us unlimited water supply...
couple with the ongoing deal about water supply from indonesia and the availability of purchasing water using VLCCs...
In fact... i ponder why we even bother to talk to them about water.... if they bloody hell dont wanna sell... we are in no need to buy either... just that we need afew more years to build up all the Newater plant and neccessary facilities.... -

Seriously, I think we still need their water for awhile because,like what tripwire said, we need a few years to get NEwater plants and desalination plants online before we can kiss Malaysian water goodbye. Johor will probably be much poorer without us buying water and they get to start drinking Malaysian treated water if Singapore stop selling them treated water also, I think they will die... (just kidding)
By the way, did you ppl read in the papers about those 2 boys who poured some detergent powder or something like that into a water tank? I wanna kick their butt man... -

This has always been a thorny issue between the 2 sides, and to be honest, I don't believe I'll be able to give a totally unbiased opinion on this matter, after all theres the small matter of me being Singaporean and having been so for more than a quarter of a century. (Geez I really make myself sound old!)
Well, in a nutshell, I do believe that the original agreement is an anachrnism and was overdue for renegotiation. The price we were paying for the raw was way too low, and too skewed in our favour. However this was offset by the lower rates they paid for the treated water.
Which does beg the question. If they have been unhappy all this while, why let the issue fester till it became open disagreement? Why not talk about it long ago? As it is, now Malaysia wants a quantum jump in price, which makes it look a lot more unpalatable on our point of view. Wouldn't it have made more sense to negotiate earlier and agree to ramp up the price slowly.
It only adds a feeling in me that the government over there does not have the foresight to plan for long term, instead focusing only on issues which are staring them in the face.
Some have said Singapores recent introduction of Newater, which makes Singapore no longer dependent on Malaysia on its water, as a bad omen for relations, as it removes one more area of do-dependence. Bullshit, water has indeed been a factor linking Singapore and Malaysia, but this factor has been of late more of a sticking point, rather than common ground between the 2 countries. A cancer is also part of ones body, but does one not remove the cancer because of this reason?
Singapore's removal of the reliance on Malaysia of water only removes a frequent source of tension and a blight on the relationship. I feel if both sides are willing to work together, it will mean better relations both sides of the Causeway.
PS. As usual, the jibes from the Gutter Press and Two-Bit politicians on Newater are not helping. They're not seeing the big picture, but based on track record, its nothing new -
