The bible has recorded deep-seated conflicts from the earliest days between the Israelis and the Muslims who were at one time brothers or half-brothers in history past.Originally posted by Atobe:Can ''Religious Conflicts'' be resolved, when those involved in provoking the conflicts are extremists that hijacked the Religion to give themselves the aura of religious righteousness in perpetuating the sufferings and death ?
Can the conflict in the Middle East be resolved when so many parties are sucked into the conflict and all sworn to the destruction and obliteration of the declared common enemy ?
Even amongst the Palestinian People, there are so many factions with different leadership and structures of command that even its own Palestinian Leadership could not even control.
Can the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinian Arabs be resolved - when there are Palestinians Arabs who have been evicted from their homes, land and properties that are owned for generations - and all done to allow the State of Israel to be created ?
There will be the extremists in any religions, sects or beliefs who would hijack their organization or causes for their own purpose, that we can understand.
Extremists hold sway over the moderates and ordinary believers partly because of their own psyche, emotions and different external world views and partly because of their ignorance.
There general masses too are likely to be influenced by the extremists for the same reason of emotion and ignorance.
Facts are facts in this world. The Islamic scholars who have been brought up in the west or the outer world are more likely to be tolerant and learn to coexist with others based on objective understanding of the world around them.
This understanding of values among people of different races and religions can and should build on such common values of how to reduce poverty, provide medical cares, and improve livelihood with greater education in order to bring about peaceful coexistence among men even within their own races or religious sects.
If peace is to be found for this world, people must learn to work together to build upon and strengthen such common values.
Political peace-making efforts have been tried and so far not very successful. The other option is attaining peaceful coexistence through people-to-people relations.
The bitterness is made worse when a victorious Israe emergedl from the 6-Day War in June 1967 controlling large tracts of land that allowed new Israeli migrants to create new settlements illegally on land taken during the 6-Day War - as prescribed by international laws - (such as the Hague and Geneva Conventions) - governing occupied land.
If the United Nations cannot play any useful role, who else can ?
The present ineffectiveness of the UN is due largely to the ineffectiveness of the UN Secretary-General to mobilize the national leaders of the World into a concerted action to resolve issues that destabilize and threaten lives all over the World.
For the UN to be effective, it will need the Secretary-General of the UN to be a person with a strong personality that is larger then Life, so as to gain the moral authority, respect and trust from the Presidents and Prime Ministers, Kings and Sheiks - from all the influential countries such as the USA, Russia, UK, France, Germany, China, Japan, Australia, and the various leadership of the Arab World. This is to prevent the leading members of the Security Council from vetoing any proposal that they will seen to be to disadvantage any one party.
The UN Secretary-General will need to have a strong mandate from all the Members in the UN to mobilize a scheme that is backed by stronger economic, political and military contributions to ensure that its decisions are clearly executed to resolve the ongoing conflicts.
The ongoing conflicts between the Israelis and the Palestinian Arabs are seen as a just struggle against the injustices committed by Israel towards the Palestinian Arabs; and with this on-going struggles justifying any means to force a conclusion that favors the Palestinian Arabs.
This has led to more uprisings that culiminated in the September 11 crash into the World Trade Centre building in New York City; and it has spawned inspirational jihad groups throughout the Middle-east, South-east Asia, and home grown sympathisers now also in UK, USA and Australia.
Can we afford another September 11 incident ?
world leaders just need to apply these simple steps and there will be world peaceOriginally posted by robertteh:World leaders have tried many times to resolve the conflicts between the Israelites and Muslim nations for ages.
Many peace agreements have negotiated with the help of leaders like the presidents of United States etc.
Yet the conflicts remain as intractable as ever.
Why?
Political Leaders clearly could not produce results, as they are not trusted by the people in conflicts.
Obviously if we are to re-examine past efforts, there has been a singular lack of success in such past and current diplomatic peace missions.
Something apparently have gone fundamentally wrong with such peace efforts and undertaking.
I would propose that instead of resolving such conflicts among politicians, of all nations involved, all parties involved should pause for a breather and let the conditions be cultivated such that ordinary citizens with social status and influence associated in non-political arenas elect their own representatives of peace to interact for a change.
Totally new and neutral and non-political ordinary sincere peacemakers could emerge in due course to build social and cultural bridges among nations.
Political leaders are not suitable to intercede in such peace efforts as they are viewed with suspicions by both sides as likely to have hidden agendas behind all the efforts and negotiations.
US for example in proposing any changes to current balances of power will not be trusted by the Muslim nations.
US will also tend to use consciously or not economic, military or political pressures to bear on their negotiations whereas ordinary non-political ambassadors will be more trusted if they approach such objective based on people-to-people friendship to forge common social, cultural and educational or even community-building objectives.
Through exchanges of such nature, a lot remain to be and can be better accomplished by ordinary active citizens involved in building of cultural and community welfare projects among such nations.
United Nation has become politicised today and is not too suitable for such efforts.
A different format of peace will have to be found if nations in conflicts are to resolve their differences.
Why do you think they have so many problems despite their foresight, insight, positive attitude and talents etc in producing a value-adding and technology-driven economy talked about for years?Originally posted by crazy monkey:world leaders just need to apply these simple steps and there will be world peacev
