This is exactly what the govt wants us think.Originally posted by Bontakun:Every nation have their dirty spot to keep out of sight.

Their original purpose (now still not changed) is to promote propaganda to the mass.
Yes but when there is free press, all sides will "sell" their propaganda instead of this situation where only one side sells its side of the story.Originally posted by Bontakun:You guys ever pondered the purpose of such invention of such items? Papers, Press, Radio, Television, Internet...

You can see the effect among students and workers in Singapore. It is a dumb down of the masses. They have lost their ability to "think" in a critical manner.
While not being able to think in a critical manner is of little consequences in everyday situation, when it comes to higher level thinking for achievement in the arts and sciences.... Singapore lose out.
Singaporeans, if they want to achieve high standards in thinking, arts and sciences, have to migrate to be among free people.... or ensure that Singapore is a free country.
Unfortunately for Singapore and Singaporeans we have a chief dictator in power that puts himself, his son and daughter in law and his cronies first instead of the interests of the country first.
Think the govt wants to implement more stringent anti-spam laws, don't know what impact it will have on using e-mails.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:Obviously internet forums are one way to address this undesirable situation... but how can it be more effective?
Will Singaporeans attach alternative views in emails to their friends and colleagues?
Newspapers, TV and Radio are powerful because they are "push" media.
Internet at the moment is "pull" media.
In order to make a difference, the alternative views need push media like emails.
I wonder why the opposition parties do not push their messages out through the internet? Maybe some of you are from the opposition and can answer this question.
Many people in the world just simply want to live a peaceful life. Even if it means having a 'questionable' government body who still does a good job in governing the nation. They just do not question or do not bother to.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:Yes but when there is free press, all sides will "sell" their propaganda instead of this situation where only one side sells its side of the story.

The anti-spam laws - even the spokesman agree, is ineffective when originating from overseas.Originally posted by Jontst78:Think the govt wants to implement more stringent anti-spam laws, don't know what impact it will have on using e-mails.
Distribution of party newsletters is no longer allowed I think (think I read somewhere)
I have toyed with this question.. I think alternative views have to be pushed gradually until like year 2009, then start a masssive push, so that the information will be relatively fresh in the minds of voters... again I digress (bad habit I know)
You are forgetting one thing and that is, imagine that no one ever stands up and complain about dishonorable behavior by dishonorable people.Originally posted by Bontakun:Many people in the world just simply want to live a peaceful life. Until the stage of 'physiology and security' is met will then the next stage of belongingness and love begins. Check Maslow's hierachy of needs".
I think we are now somewhere between 'belongingness' and 'cognitive' stage where 'identity' is one of the main topics and our role in the world.
So have you offered you services to any of our opp parties?Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:I think the opposition needs to employ an IT consultant to help them. I am an IT consultant as well as a writer in case you don't know.![]()
That is why the opposition must take the initiative and push the alternative views out. Most people communicate through emails and thus is would be effective to "push" it out to those people.Originally posted by Rock^Star:This population is not entirely internet literate yet.
There are a lot out there who use email to communicate but do not surf the internet for alternative info.
At least another 30 years before the entire population becomes educated enough towards the internet.
However, even till then, with the party's grip on all civil service and uniformed forces, it isn't easy to dislodge them.
I would rather those Singapore to continue with local media instead of coming to speakers corner to read about all the BS contributed by super computer hero who have no identity, responsibility and accountability of what they said.Originally posted by Rock^Star:This population is not entirely internet literate yet.

hahaha if they offer me a job (and pay me) I might consider but I am not into politics as in running for office...Originally posted by Rock^Star:So have you offered you services to any of our opp parties?![]()
Since you are so active in this forum and so knowledgeable about the political scene in Singapore why dont you start your own opposition campaign and mass mailing to Sigapore on your throught about the government and its policy. I am sure many of anti pap supporter in this forum will support you.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:That is why the opposition must take the initiative and push the alternative views out. Yet I do not see the opposition doing that, pushing out their message. I even get emails from Fa Lun Kung people regarding the arrests of their members in Singapore. I have yet to receive an email form any of the opposition parties.
Another problem is the lack of good writers.
You might have very good points but you write poorly, the message gets "lost"
The few who are aware and tried to expose the ugly side of the governing and such (Durai case for example) are those who seek the truth and justice. The sad (or good?) thing is that, most of the citizens do not have the same curiousity or fervor in seeking the truth.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:You are forgetting one thing and that is, imagine that no one ever stands up and complain about dishonorable behavior by dishonorable people.
TT Durai will continue to happily draw his peanut salary at the expense of the kidney patients.
The dishonorable people will continue to increase their million dollars salaries and at the same time continue to complain about people choosing class C wards.
So if nobody stands up and be counted. Nobody stands up and criticize (and in Singapore, that can be very costly) the situation can only get worse.
So people like CSJ and JBJ... (slimed by the press) ..........while you think that they have done nothing... think again.
The dictators, given a completely free hand would have turned this country into an even more stressful place to live by taking even more of Singaporeans' money.
Knowing that CSJ and JBJ is there to scream at them would have held back their hand a little... if there is stronger opposition, it might even reverse the situation and Singapore in reality becomes a better place for all instead of becoming a better place for some at the expense of the majority.
Think, less luxuries for the dictators and more class C wards for all.
