the thing is .... there's nothing much you can do about it right now ....Originally posted by ShutterBug:Although China is 'booming' economically, it will be these sort of lazy ignorance and their haste to make money that will undo them in the long run....
I find that it is their common trait to make a quick buck by producing and selling ill-researched and under-developed products and or services.
I am refering to China Made products, not products Made in China. There is a great difference between the two labels.Originally posted by Fatum:the thing is .... there's nothing much you can do about it right now ....
it's a big challenge to go through one day without touching, using, buying, or ingesting china made stuff .... (I tried this experiment when the news of the poison toothpaste first came out, but failed in about 30 seconds ...)
in the long run, nothing would change ... as the big global manufacturers will soon find that with everyone running to china, pretty soon there'll be no alternative but to buy from them, as the competition gets squeezed out.
Potentially dangerous? It's either poisonous and banned or not. Cannot be half way. If it's poisonous, why isn't the FDA banning it? Even the European standards allow for its use in toothpaste (nobody seems to quote this. Their agenda is to bash China). So the truth is half way somewhere. The last statement about mass poisoning really takes the cake. Hysteria really has a way of getting out of hand.Originally posted by Dr Who:Singapore's Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has recalled three China-made toothpastes because they contain Diethylene Glycol (DEG), a potentially poisonous ingredient.
DEG is a cheap industrial solvent dangerously used as a substitute for sweet-tasting glycerin in toothpastes.
The three products found to contain DEG are Hei Mei toothpaste, Hei Mei Calcium toothpaste and Maxam toothpaste with Fluoride.
DEG has been blamed for the death of thousands of people worldwide, with mass poisonings in Panama, India, Haiti, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Argentina and China in the past two decades. - CNA/ch
They wrote potentially poisonous.. which i assume it meant it would accumulate in the body if the person use it all too often and then finally resulting in death by poisoning.Originally posted by chiabaliao:Potentially dangerous? I have every confidence that our AVA will take corrective measure to ensure high safety of imported food products, be they from China or anywhere else. Take the case of salted eggs. AVA has rejected consignments (not all) of salted eggs from China, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam because they contained Sudan Red. Even China has rejected many consignments of food from countries such as Japan and USA for containing undesirable amounts of bacteria and such. Question of food safety, no hysteria.Originally posted by 4getmenot:They wrote potentially poisonous.. which i assume it meant it would accumulate in the body if the person use it all too often and then finally resulting in death by poisoning.
If it was really all about bashing China, would S'pore gahmen had taken the risks to pull it off the shelf to piss China off? lets not forget the amount of investments gahmen have placed in China..

I think you should re-read my posting and understand that I am refering to the differences in branded products Made in China vs products FROM China.Originally posted by the.owl:the sentence is understood by me, but I do not understand the sentence.
Diethylene glycol is the constituent of anti-freeze. If consumed in sufficient quantities, it forms oxalate crystals which block the kidney tubules and lead to kidney failure and death. The amount present in the toothpaste is probably too small to kill (unless you are in the habit of swallowing lots of toothpaste).Originally posted by chiabaliao:Potentially dangerous?
