I have mixed feelings abt CSJ, but I have to give him credit for trying to bring public awareness to the questionable policies of PAP.
When I see people ridicule him etc etc, I'd ask, what does he stand to gain in all these, esp after losing so much.
You cant help but at least give him some respect. -

I have heard talk of him being a MIW Mole, its of no consequence as its has not been proven, or even remotely close. The only thing is that some people felt that he screwed up the repuation of Opposition members, which hardly means he's a mole, probably means that he's not a very skilled politician. I didn't agree with ousting Chiam, but also didn't agree with Chiam asking Chee to "self censor". back to CSJ.. so what if he does all this? people look, then look at him, realise that he has the credibility of a crooked used car salesman and pour scorn on him.. and when he keeps doing so, all who try to do so with dignity and true love for the people will also be tarred by the same brush.. in other words, he has basically destroyed Singapore's Opposition...
do you not even know that there is talk that he is the MIW's mole in the opposition? everytime there is a chance, he will come in and screw things up.. Gomez was another... between that two, the MIW could not have damaged the opposition as much as they did..
he keeps ranting that he 'doesn't have interest' because, like the fox which proclaimed the grapes are sour, he knows that the Singapore People will never be hoodwinked by this charlatan ever again.. only people on the outside who have no idea of his disgraceful behaviour will believe him.. but then, isn't he like the MIW who is more interested in FTs than the locals?

And with this specific case in question, I see no harm done to the opposition repuation. Non-Violent protests and garnering int'l support to apply pressure on the government is a common strategy among human rights activists around the world. Most recently, in East Timor.
The desensatization, is a large part, the work of the PAP. I know foreign media portrays him in a very different light, even in the begining, even the locally based foreign journalists. I do not think he's PM material, but at least he's garnered more int'l support than all other opposition parties put together, and that is fact, not speculation.
I don't trust him wholly. Regardless of his own agenda, I do know for fact that what he has accomplished on an international level has yet to be achieved by any other Singaporean living in singapore. Other than mytrdom, he has gained nothing but condemnation and the destruction of his material well being.
Do you understand the concept of Non-violent action? It is to rave and rant, over issues or polices that you are opposed to, in order to garner support, locally and internationally. I hardly think of this incident as a screwup. It is infact a direct challenge to the Govt to take action against non-violent protests(which are a accepted norm in many developed countries), especially now that Singapore has a higher visiblity within the international community. -

I admire the courage of these people who stood up for democracy. However, I question its effectiveness. Has this movement garnered more support for Chee?
I believe the first and foremost concern on the average Singaporean's mind is still bread and butter. Knowledge of democracy for the man in the street has still a long way to go.
Being the pragmatic Singaporeans that most of us are, food on the table comes before democracy. My view. -

Unfortunately, it takes takes a high level of intellect for people to realize how democracy and freedom of speech will lead to a better life for them and their children... but people do not think... they are like sheep and simply follow the leader.
When you have dishonorable dictators as leaders... they will push people to the limit by taking away their money so that they have to work so much harder. When people work so hard, they should reap the rewards and not have to finance the luxurious lifestyles of dishonorable people. -

When it comes to their own million dollars salaries, the level of luxury they enjoy is not enough because they compared with the hardworking (and as Philip J points out, lucky, by luck, they earn so much) top earners in Singapore.
