Above 35 means jobless

When I am a teenager, I asked a neighbour auntie why she didn't go working. She said that above 35 nobody want to hire leow, especially the factory.
Then 2007, I heard that working ages increase from 55 to 62...I am optimistic..
However, I made a phone call yesterday asking about the criteria for a job. The person on the other line asked, "Are you above 21 and not above 35"
After hearing this, I am lucky I havent reach the ceiling of 35 yrs old yet. But I am depress, is it above 35 mean no job?

It's depend on your education level and the demand of your skill set. If you are in demand, then the job market will still want you when you are above 35...
If not, the employer will gladly get a cheaper fresh graduate or foreign workers (aka FT) to replace you. -
It depends on NOTHING.
But it seriously depends on whether you are local or foreign.
Yes, being above 35 no matter what skills or experiences you possess, you will VERY likely NOT get the job. So long as you are local.
Why else, do you think our government is only just recently, implementing new Labour Regulations for employers to hire more local older workers? Because our employment market is "diseased" by our government's negligence over the decades...
What's worse, use of Foreign Talents have become in-grained into employers.
Good luck to all who will eventually become above 35 years of age...

No worry, can always join the "friendly" team of taxi drivers upon reaching age 35. So have you decided which companies you prefer? Comfort? Yellow Top?

depends on various factors that add together.
1. industry
2. education level.
3. skill set
4. experience(regional)
5. personal expectation.
6. govt policy.
7. company HR practices.
but in generally, 35 still not so bad if you have tertiary education.

I was talking to this taxi driver...he has a master from uni of virginia ..but after retrenchment, cant get any decent job with the minimal incoming needed to support his family....

You think tertiary educations and all that jazz will put you on solid ground?
I'd say more likely solution is a bloody change of government! -
Its true that once you are 35 and above, its hard to get any well paid Job. Unless u have a good cert or a skill that few have. So, upgrade or just stick to your old job lor.....

Taxi drivers have to work more than 12 hours a day 2 make a living!!!
But Taxi companies make more than $10 millions per year same as our Sinkapore gov ,hahaha stupid taxi drivers!!!! -

One friend of mine got a shock when a headhunter asked her if she was 35 or younger over the phone.
When she asked the headhunter whether it really mattered, the headhunter told her although it is not explicitly stated by potential employers, the headhunters will likely not get the business if they start recommending "older" workers.
And it was not an isolated case. A couple of recruitment agencies also said the same thing so likely it must be pretty true.
Go figure. -
