chances of getting/changing job above 30 is low.
chances of getting/changing job with large pay cut is high.
chances of getting/changing in to a low pay job if you are highly educated, is low.
I am at near singapore's unoffical unemployment age of grand old 35. Job market is tough and all the hype on TV is just hype. So many people just repeat the media propaganda. Reality is staring in our faces if we even bother to see it. Look at the number of Taxis, people in low paying jobs and etc.
So don't bother to study so hard, or work so hard. Other than elites, the rest of the population can only hope to be a cab drivers, toilet cleaners, road sweepers, dish washers, burger flippers and other low level jobs if the bangala or the old people didn't get to it first. PRC, Foreigners and even bangalas might get into better jobs than locals. Trying to make ends meet in singapore will continue to be harder and harder and this is not a welfare state. Ask our resident member: dragg.. BTW, where is he? -
i would very much like to disagree with TS........but i do recruitment myself, discrimination is alway practised......do u know how easy it is to trash a resume

age aside, the odd thing here is FT is given so much weightage here, locals are treated like pariah....
I m in australia now [not permanently (yet)] and most of whom i speak to told me that aussie employers prefer local first. the barrier for FTs is so much higher for the same job. i think the same applies to many countries as well...another uniquely singapore trait. -

Above 35 Singaporeans can work as:
Hospital attendants
Taxi drivers
Cleaners
Security guards
Bus captains
Production operators
Door man/ Bell boy
Gardeners
There are many more jobs.
LKY once gave a talk on unemployment to an assembly hall full of employed people, he was telling them Singaporeans are choosy, there are jobs that need people, but no takers, example, gardener at Istana, pay $1500 pm, no takers. Therefore Singaporeans, he concluded are choosy.
So over 35ers.
Put aside your papers, certs, degrees. Don't be choosy. You need money to survive in Singapore. So work, grab any job you can get. The younger ppl are cheaper and robust, so too are the FT. You are old and prone to sickness, so get out of the way, into jobs that provides support for the young ppl and FTs, that keeps the economy strong, and Singapore Inc going. -
More Quality Jobs for the People! We want quality jobs and not just any inching kurang job! I can get employed in a blink of an eye in a pub or restuarant as a waitress, cashier , cook but those jobs aren't for me!
so yes! unless you willing to downgrade, more often than not, the not soooo highly educated ones will suffer this early "retirement" syndrome!

they don't suffer the same fate as the ordinary people so they don't hack the care!! only good at asking people to upgrade, be competitive to compete. do things to protect and care for themselves more than the nation. bloody damn!! by not setting quota to allow so many FTs here even how we upgrade to compete it is not very promising!!! gahmen very good think of themselves!! Look at how they now embrace Casinos, and F1 racing here... look at what happened to their Stop at Two policy... there so many other stupid things they do which in the end, need to make U-turn!
Will they ever ONCE listen to us? No... not even till when the cows and all of the animal kingdom comes home...!
They pay themselves MILLIONS... for what? To be "brain dead" to more revenues and incomes for themselves....
Like I've said, and I know for all of us who cannot afford to migrate out, are doomed if this stubborn gov of ours refuses to change and continues to be centerd on power, money, and self-gains... -
Not true leh. I come across an engineering firm, hired more that 5 China engineers. About 40% of the engineers are from PRC. Im 31 already liao this year... and believe me, competing with those fresh grads can be really frustrating.... No skill upgrade, too old, slow learner, etc etc etc.... So many resumes send no replies.... Sigh!!!

According to their wishes, things are done and implemented. Sad, most of us can't afford to migrate and I also worry for my old age if I can manage to cope with the cost of living here. My current monthly salary only a pathetic $1625!!! Lucky got sideline as MLM, my part time job earns more luckily for me... Can feed wife at least, no kids yet...
But still worry about the rising cost of living... One time payoff for gst? Ask them go try to survive with a 1.6k salary lah!
