ISD is just an enforcement agency, to prevent things from happening. They are just doing what they're suppose to do.

So wise...
Some of the criticism are justified. There are however, also some that borders on senseless nitpicking.Originally posted by citymax:Hi,

Alot of forumers are posting subject that insulted our current governement, i not sure what is their motives and what message are they bringing to the others forumers tat reads their posts.
I feel over the past 40 odd years, the government has been doing alot for the citizen in Singapore, but still get insult for their policies. I wonder what is the best treatment they want from the Government.
Should we just moved backward to the troublesome period in 1950s, think how the government help the us during the economy crisis, how the ministers assist the Sars period. They done enough to earn our respect and not insults and complains from us why they need to earn so much money.
I do agree the society need to be more democratic and free voicing of the people. But how much trust are we prepare to give to the new opposition parties.

Very well said indeed!Originally posted by red_amoeba:I am all for keeping political talents and paying them their worth - but first pls prove their worth & tell us what they have done / accomplished.
the dengue fever is still raging - why? Every year, we hear the ministry urging us to get rid of stagnant water but the situation has not improved. we still hear complains about the transport system. health care costs is all time high. hospitals are overcrowded yet they market the private hospitals to foreigners as medical hub - then the locals? No affordable beds? CPF rates have not been restored although government has said economy is robust and the STI is sky high. Government tell us to work till later (which I have no objections) but you fear for your job once you reach 40 and everday, you see your workplace populated with more FTs. They encourage you to be entrepreuner but the NETs transaction fees has just gone up, you cannot sell tissue paper without being harassed for license. they aim for an education hub but UNSW just closed down and the entrance to University gets tougher for local students. Which ministry shld answer
Shin Corp investment failure- sure, its a business investment gone bad - but you realise what happened if it happened in a corporation? Its taxpayers money mind you. My money is inside, and I don't mind if they had taken this money to help the poor, at least its done on a good cause. Its akin to a private company making the wrong investment, the CEO has to answer to the shareholders. The head got to answer, someone got to be responsible and not quietly swept under the carpet and be forgotten. Suzhou Industrial Park?
No doubt, we don't the government a living but i see it as we are the shareholders, we pay taxes and we elect a government. If we have questions about its policies, I have the right to raise and question and ask for anwsers.

I said: 66.6% votes...do you know how PAP has won elections hands down in the past 40 years? By using the ISD to create a climate of fear. If one votes for the opposition, beware of ISD agents knocking on one's door. That was the past but the climate of fear has continued its legacy till today.
Citymax questions: may i noe how true is the ISD knocking doors on people that vote for opposition parties?
I replied: It may not be true but fact is there's this fear. How did it come about? Perhaps you should read up more on Singapore's political history, right from the 50s.
You mentioned: Dont waste time asking this question, these people are only capable of speculating things which they dont even know if it is true in the first place and that why I am said that the blind are leading the blind in this forum.
And then I replied you: Do you not know that ISD was used by LKY to clamp down on communists? And then it boiled down to political opponents? So why not common citizens?
What about Chia Thye Poh, Francis Seow and Tang Liang Hong? How about the student blogger who was threatened legal action by A*Star chairman when he voiced dissident views? What about the the 22 year old NSF who was called up for questioning just because he participated in the Human Rights Day movement?
Can you differentiate between the "air head" and informed anti-PAP sentiments here? Why are you stereotyping all as one flock? Just because some spout rubbish doesn't mean all do so

From your formula, does this mean:Originally posted by (human):LHL= government
Ho ching= private company
LHL= prime minister + finiance minister
Ho ching = CEO of Temasek
LHL + Ho ching= Husband and Wife
Tell me what is Singapore tax payers money doing in Temasek?

Wait.Originally posted by Eiizumi:From your formula, does this mean:
1)
LHL = government, Ho ching = private company
and hence,
government = private company ?!?!

2)
Government + Private Company (Temasek) = Husband and Wife = maybe yes
but
You give your money to your wife, your wife invest failure, you will hantum your wife meh? At most hubby nag or advise wife abit and pass it.
Wife also helping family make more money, will you blame her?
Your wife earn the money give hubby back a bit of money, but will she give back everything she earned in investment? No what.

If he's on holiday with the rest of the PAP, I think they must be bailing out of the country to let it rot.Originally posted by Gazelle:I assume, that when LHL is on holiday, there will be no government in Singapore? and if there is no Ho Ching, there will be no Temasek?

LHL is PM, finance minister and also in charge of MAS (forgot his position in MAS, anyone care to tell what is his position there?) . GST increase LHL has the say. Any $$$$ involved, LHL is in it. It is very clear that the lee very into controlling $$$$$$ in Singapore!!! Never had it been like that to others when they were presidents, pms in Singapore in the history of singapore. This is no wonder people of Singapore have lots to comment and say about the lee. So TS is just being one sided, and sees only one side of the coin.Originally posted by (human):LHL= government

It is not true that they don't owe us a living. Without us, they can't get paid so super high salary. It applies to every country in the world, as long as the politicians are serving the nation and get paid, the nation is the boss of the politicians. Singapore is no exception. If the ruling party thinks otherwise, then don't depend on Singaporeans to get paid for their salary every month.Originally posted by ShutterBug:Very well said indeed!
These are my views as well; I mean, if the gov often proclaim that they don't owe us a living, then WHY the fark are WE made to owe them a bloody high living???
Do we see a balance in that???
so what sort of cat are you? miow meow meow!!! you are so ever full of ill insults, one eye cxck who sees only one side!!! go continue to lick the boot!!! meow meow miow . . .. loves comes here to meow meow meow kpkb!!Originally posted by Gazelle:whiners will always be whiners regardless of what the government did does or is doing because they are unable to see the big picture of what the government is doing and the blinds here are always lead the blind.
a) Like I said before, the whiners here are like the domesticated puss.y cats that are spoilt and lazy, and now that our government is brining in wild cats (aka FT) to the community they feel threaten and all they can do is meow!!
b) Most people here are always blaming the government whenever there is a price increase, be it food stuffs, housing, transportation etc, without realising the true cause of increase.
It seems like they have conveniently forgotten that
i) Higher oil price caused by iraq will inflat the cost of every items that we use everyday. e.g. oil based plastic products, logistic cost, energy cost etc.
ii) Global M&A activities which create a natural monopoly in many industry.
c) The reason why the world is becoming so competitive is because of globalisation and breakthrough in technology. Somehow the whiners will not complain they they have PS3 to play, and new phone to show off, but when coming to compete with the world, they will make hell lot of noise saying out government is useless and bla bla bla.
d) Whiner here are just like couch potato, seating comfortably at home, and all they are capable of doing is complaining that this movie is not good, the TV is too small, the sofa is not comfortable, the room is too warm..etc.
e) When they run out of excuses, they will start to point their finger at the minister salary, which we all already know that its the highest in the world. And just because our system is unique, it is by default that it is wrong and we must follow USA, British or Austrlian style of democracy.
I am just wondering have they ever question why a CEO or manager should be paid higher than a factory workers when the factory workers are actually work more hours in the company?
Or could it be that they are unknowingly suggesting that Singapore should be run like a communist country.
Good, happy for you and family. Many who have $$$ and opportunities have gone overseas already. A neighbour who is doing research and base in US just decided that she will give up her singapore citizenship.Originally posted by foomwee88:I m 55 years old,I c no future in Sinkapore that why we migrated now!!!

hey, you are wrong. Many of those who told me they voted for the ruling party don't like the way they run the country but voted them out of fear.Originally posted by citymax:But who gave their votes????
The majority of the citizens in Singapore.
So may i right to say only the minority are complaining on the system of the government.
