SGH retrofits area so that at a touch of a button, it becomes a facility to treat victims of chemical, biological disasters
just read it at the local press......
While it is an admirable attempt.... i have to say.... ITs not enough...
1...since when it is possible to wash off a victim of biological attack?? cut the fella up... wash it... then put his organs back in? especially if its a viral agent... wat are they gonna do?? siphon off all the patients blood, wash it in detergent and then pump back in???
2. if our chemical defense is top notched... it will simply force the enemy to go biological right??
3.. any backup plan if this fail?? or if the hospital itself becomes contaminated??
4.... it took them 1 hour to handle a dozen causualty.... i always thought that such chemical attacks usually generates casualty by the hundreds if not by the thoudsands.....and if the poison is airborn or water born... we could be talking about hundreds of thoudsands of casualty
IS this.... one of those wayang show har???
EXCO
Relax lah Tripwire, everything has to start small. This could be just a beginning as Singapore builds up "immunity" to biological and chemical attacks. If they say they can "wash a patient of biological attacks", I'm sure they have a medical way of doing so, though the word "wash" may be out of place here.

i agree with EXCO, its a good start already. Better than doing nothing and while its probably a bit of wayang also, it undoubtedly helps build up some confidence in the public. To do nothing would be worse right? Also, how many do you expect them to treat at once... like you said yourself, its not so easy to treat such attacks
and about strengthening chem defence causing enemies to go bio... erm, having good chem defence is better then having No defence...

both r rite.....agree

i actually think its better to identify key bio threats and immunize the population against it... better than any silly wayang the hospital tries to impress the ignorant with.
not that many germs are currently being used actually... anthrax, smallpox, botulinum toxin, yellow fever... prevention is better than cure and if that fails cos the germs are genetically engineered and anti-biotic resistant, u're screwed anyway... no facility can possibly deal with casualties in the hundreds of thousands. its wishful thinking to expect that.
as for chemical contamination, any nerve gas attack would kill u before u had a chance to blink... a few microns of VX would do u in already... same with sarin as we all read about incident in tokyo... not that many survivors outside the immediate vicinity of the attack... those who did spent weeks in intensive care... how to handle a few thousand casualties at the same time?
again... wishful thinking to expect to run to hospital to seek treatment after breathing in something and feeling funny... its probably for industrial type accidents, not war-time application.
