As all of you guys might have know-RMAF has been cleared to take delivery 18 FA-18F armed with AIM 9,AMRAAM,JSOW,JDAM,SLAM-ER,HARPOON etc(plslah double check with relevant and credible source before you guys start that stupid and immature comments of yours)
It is most likely the deal will be announced after the PM table the 2003 budget which may see a sharp incline in the defence budget.Apart from that -another sqn of 18-24 SU 30MKM will be purchased in order to equipped 2 sqn of MRCA.Chief of RMAF has outlined that the air force will need to operational sqn of the multi role fighters.
4 EMB145 ERIEYE AEW&C from Brazil also will be purchased in order to further increase RMAF effectiveness in multi spectrum air combat scenarios.The defence minister has been briefed about the a/c during his visit to Brazil last year and days ago a high power delegations from Brazil held a special session for the Malaysian govt and industries officials.
During the last national day parade it is interesting to noted that FA18D made a flypast and i mean all 8 of them(to proved that RMAF has a high readiness rate)+9 Hawks and 6 MIG 29N/NUB from the 17 sqn OCU.19 sqn MIG 29N (total of 11) were put on a standby and did not took part in the flypast.MLRS,G5,ADNAN AIFV etc also took part that day.
2 of the MEKO A100 stealth NGPV(read corvette)are to be delivered within months as they are going weapons trials now somewhere near the NDSB shipyards in Lumut.NDSB are believed to have installed MM40 ITL 72 and VLSEASPARROW (16 silo) for the weapons trials purposes.The next batch of 4 will be built 100 percent in Malaysia and the next batch of 6(2005 onwards)will be a dedicated AAW warfare corvettes.

I felt sorry for you since you're so naive.We Malaysians are more well versed on the details about our weapons deal even before the US DOD issued a press release.
Congress were informed and supplied with relevant documents in advance (months in advance)before they could table the issue in the US Senate within the next few weeks.Malaysia already got a positive answers-if not how do you explain the moves of GE to relocate their regional office from an ASEAN country to Malaysia??They do it for the sake of moving out???Or they just like the Malaysian attitude???

I would like to seek some clarification
1. Could you please list the website where you get the information from regarding the purchase especially the clearance on the aquisition of the missiles such as AMRAAM and SLAM - ER. I am interested in finding out more about the MAF expansion. A distinction should be made between being cleared to acquire the weapons as stated and actually acquiring them. A example is the Malaysian submarine purchase. There has been statements that RMN is planning to acquire submarines over the years but it is only recently that subs were acquired. My point is that Malaysia track record of weapon acquisition often indicate a significant time lag between statement of intent and the actual signing of contract. What you posted only tells us that Malaysia has an interest in or is cleared to purchase certain weapons but did not say that they have been purchased. I believed the FA 18 part but i have some doubts about the JSOW and SLAM ER part.
2. It is an interesting contrasts between the SAF and MAF modernisation program. The MAF upgrades in spurts while the SAF prefers a gradual systematic approach.
A balance have to be achieved between force transformation and force readiness. There is only so much defence budget. Should your defence budget be mostly allocated to force transformation, you run the risk that due to lack of significant finances, force readiness may be compromised. Such a massive one time expenditure would also means that the defence spending will have to be toned down over the next few years and the implication would be that force technology currency might suffer due to non upgrade.
Would harimau comment on the combat readiness of MAF?
Singaporeans should be concerned about the MAF modernisation but they should also bear in mind the implication of such programs on other aspect of MAF. Personally i prefer the SAF method. It provide a finer balance between the 2 aspects i mentioned above

Sure...I have no problems believing malaysia will get new planes...but JSOW & SLAM-ER?? Those are unlikely. US policy is not to introduce new abilities into any region.
AWAS? New planes?....sure...no problem believing that....problem is when ?? Malaysia do not have a good track record in such areas. Also she has just signed a number of major deals. Thus took quite a sum of hard currency. Making another such big purchase within such a short time, will drain your reserves flat.
Malaysian had announced that in all future arm deals payments will consists of palm oil. Brazil mabbe...but I dun think Boeing will want palm oil as payment. -

Lastly... there is no way malaysia can build the remaining 4 corvettes 100 percent locally... because... at the very least.. the weapons, electronic system, engines and many other subsystems are not made in malaysia... at the very most... malaysia can only claim that the ships hull... is made in malaysia... just like their proton vehicles...
As such... in view of the fact above.. i would only say that malaysia would be building about 30 percent of the MEKO A 100 locally... and the rest (and the most important components) must come from oversea. else... malaysia RMN at most will simply get a ship hull with nothing... not even an engine...
as for their desire to purchase JSOW, JDAM, SLAM-ER... i think FAT HOPE that the americans would release them to a muslim nation.
BUT if ever they do... it simply means RSAF and RTAF would also be able to purchase it and in the case of RSAF... probably in much larger quantity that RMAF can ever dream of. -

Malaysia has been known to talk big when it comes to weapon purchases, and we have been thru that discussion many a times. Until Malaysia signs that contract in black and white, nothing is assured. Once again you have shown yourself as unable to process the facts you have into relevant argument points.

Oh...that we know already...problem is "cleared for" is very very different from bought. So far about all thats confirmed to be bought in the DoD announcement is the Sewer...er...I mean Super Hornet. All the toys are not confirmed yet, the DoD and Malaysian announcement mentioned the plane but no other details
As for all the rest, please, at this moment its all nothing but empty boasts by the Malaysian government. Funding for things like the Erieye and su-30 hasn't even been freed yet, sign contract then come and talk lah...

Just a technical detail I like to point out to you. The RSN MGB do not have Barak - 1. I believe it is only installed on the MCV. I think it is a postive step for the Malaysian naval construction industry to be involve in this project as there will inevitably be a technology transfer. After all, the RSN took the same path with regards to the MCV - 1st assembly in Germany and subsequent assembly in Singapore. The expertise gained allowed the indigenous developement and construction of the APV/PV. For all the criticism we leveled on Harimau, we should acknowledged that the Malaysians are moving forward -

singapore RSN has 12 PVs.. the new 55 meter long water jet version... its said that 6 of them are for ASW and the other 6 is for wat har??
and since the RSN MGB is only 45meter long.... does anyone think or might believe that its entirely possible that those 12 PVs can be converted to MGBs if not MCVs during an emergency??
afterall... it does seems to me that some of the PVs already have part of the systems found on MCVs... they probably have make sufficient design reservation for such an emergency conversion. -

Yes that is correct. The MCV is currently armed with 16 Barak. 8 on each side of the variable depth sonar at the quarterdeck. Regarding the issue of the SAM system onboard the frigate, the only confirmed aquIsition is ASTER 15. The Barak remain a speculation only. It is interesting to note that one of the contender in the SAM tender was the Super Barak. Regarding the possible PV/APV conversion, that is a classified. The PV/APV/MCV do not share common electronic outfit.
