I keep seeing one whenever I take the MRT passing OrchardOriginally posted by boka:i see more jamacians and negros around these days
Very easy to identify, once they open their mouth and talk you will know they are from china.Originally posted by sg mata:juz asking....how do I tell a PRC from a sporean chinese??
Cultures are being developed over time, and no culture can be preserved at 100% forever. I thought most ppl are bright enough to realise that clinging on to a old culture and refuses changes will mean moving backwards and no progression.Originally posted by joola74:I wonder if you guys notice what i notice these days that where ever i go, i can see China nationals beside me.Be it MRT, buses, market, kopi shop, whatever , whenever, whereever.... i confirm to meet them. And Chinatown and Geylang these two places,i can see that more than 90% of them are the China nationals.I can see this situation getting worst.I am not saying we should not discourage or hate foreigners. But if our government is going to sell us out to FT or worst, to the China nationals, our local culture will gone in the future.
I notice that FT for example China nationals are the most compare to the rest of the FT.Should we sing Chinese national songs instead of Majura Singapura if worst come to worst???Hope the government are not so bad as to sell our country to China nationals!!!
It is true,we r no more afraided of Malays why our song is still in Malayu, cant understand????Originally posted by chenc:Cultures are being developed over time, and no culture can be preserved at 100% forever. Lol foreigners moving over means must sing their national anthem? Very very interesting theory.
You sound like gov is plotting something secretly. Gathering FT troops? You are a funny man
There is a huge difference mind you. Not every single FT comes here to settle down, but they come and go.Originally posted by blueheeler:As blogged here (http://blueheeler.wordpress.com/?s=china) S'pore was populated by of migrants, except for a handful of Malay fisherfolk and Chinese farmers who were here when Raffles landed. As a place that has welcomed migrants seeking new lives for nearly 200 years, Singapore continues with this trend today, with China nationals, Indian nationals and many other nationalities flocking here to earn a living, like our ancestors so many years ago.
But now, I sensed that some S'poreans are using the we-are-better-than-new-migrants attitude when dissing them. Most newcomers have been called 'rude', 'loud' and 'crass'. But let us S'poreans not forget that most of our great-grandparents also arrived fresh off the boat in S'pore 'rude', 'loud' and 'crass', but S'pore gave them a chance to settle down to make an honest living, and so we, you and I, are here today.
Then why is MOM so secretive about the employment numbers? All that is is speculation by economists, and a corrected news article on CNA because MOM said it was some 10-20% less than the quoted figure. Mind you, during a period of one year, 66% of jobs created went to foreigners. By no means is this a small sum.Originally posted by Slipshade:No, govrt isn't selling us to Chinese nationals, but to FTs. It is inevitable that there are more Chinese nationals because China has this incredible number of population. :p
You guys can resent the FT influx, but there is also little doubt that they are helping our economy... Sad truth.
well said, well said.Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:Immigration is not the issue here, the real issue is if the Singaporean has been given a fair chance to compete with them, or has he been saddled with a series of disadvantages that the FT does not have, and then told to compete?
exactly!Originally posted by Fingolfin_Noldor:There is a huge difference mind you. Not every single FT comes here to settle down, but they come and go.
There must be a distinction made here. If the FT comes here and takes a job that a Singaporean could provide with the same capability, this is blatant discrimination and not acceptable.
If the FT in question comes here and settle down, fine. At least he adds to the population numbers and contributes to the economy.
If the FT here in question provides a service that no one here can, that is also fine. At least the service he provides contributes to the benefit of the locals indirectly.
Remember that our small economy does not allow us to soak up foreigners like a sponge like the US or Europe. We have constraints on land and resources and this makes it difficult for people to live with some measure of comfort.
what disadvantages? You receive subsidized education and medical care, not the FT. You get subsidized housing, not the FT. If foreign workers can do the same job for less pay, blame yourself for itOriginally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:Immigration is not the issue here, the real issue is if the Singaporean has been given a fair chance to compete with them, or has he been saddled with a series of disadvantages that the FT does not have, and then told to compete?
