answer to why is the weather so hot and unstable these days, why are trees falling onto people and killing them more than ever.
eventually, its just human nature, we will only react when things happen. why? because who's willing to spend the money?
in the end, we'll all get wiped out by our own invention which is money. -
Actually there are lots of energy alternatives which are environmentally friendly, I wonder why we keep relying on fuels that would cause detriment to the environment.
In Jared Diamond's book Collapse, he talks about mining companies extracting metals in Montana and in the process produced alot of toxic byproducts. The company does not have a legal liability to clean up the toxic waste, as a result the toxic waste seep into the soil causing future environmental problems. A company's sole interest is only to make money, not to be accountable to the general public. Therefore laws have to be made to make companies like these accountable for their actions, so that all the companies are required to clean up, instead of only those socially responsible companies cleaning up and in the process reducing their profit margin threatening their own survival.
Carbon emissions do not affect us directly, so we as consumers do not have an active interest to monitor those transgressors. Government has the power and authority, that is if they can see the dire need to control greenhouse gases now.
But from a country to country perspective, control of burning fossil fuels will not go down too well with countries like China and India, when they are just at the initial phase of economic development. Putting a cap on their energy needs will sap alot of their productive capacity.
The only way is to advance developments into other forms of clean energy alternatives, through these technological developments, reduce the price of energy generation to that of fossil fuels. So that countries like India and China can convert to these cheaper alternative energy sources.
Greed will destroy humanity.
Our impending destruction is a result of our past successes. -
We can all sleep earlier instead of surfing sgforums reading threads like these. Coz the less time spent at the comp means less electricity being used, and less trees need to be burnt to generate all that energy to run your computer to read threads like these.

Useless one lah. What is the use of the actions of a few groups of individuals? When US, China, India all continue to pollute the air cause they are too selfish.
The human race is doomed to extinction sooner or later. That's the way of life. -

Personally, I think that Global Warming is a serious future problem which many around the world still take lightly. Why? Because it is NOT something that is regarded by many as Clear & Present Danger.
The problem with people is that they largely only react to something as tangible as a Tsunami, or a massive Earthquake or Hurricane. And the deadly thing about Global Warming, is that it is very slow and gradual - much like putting a live frog in a pot and turning up the heat every so slightly till it gets boiled alive without knowing it.
Global Warming is no joke. It can permanently alter our weather systems, sea level rises and geogrphy changes permanently. It will royally screw up the nature of things on Earth and catastrophes will wreak havoc on lives and World Economies.
But herein lies the big question; What can we do? Yes indeed, what the hell can we do?
Do you people seriously think, that China with the largest population on Earth will be concerned about Global Warming? I think not...
Already the weather in Singapore has become abnormal; rain and storms almost everyday from March into June/July?
I wonder where will Shenton Way be if the sea level rose 20 feet? -
Recently there is news about using biofuel to replace petrol. Hope it works this time.

helping others out of poverty instead of letting poverty kill them/snuff them out is a bad idea cos that just increases the burden on the earth?

they are cutting down forests to plant one species, destroying the biodiversity that is the tropical forest..

Do you realise the impact it has to the environment as well besides the energy needed to convert these into bio-fuel
In Asia like Bear said, there are already articles out to get people to save the orang utans coz the palm plantations are destroying their natural habitat
Not to mention other fragile species like frogs etc -

The Gulf War for example polluted the sea and they had to spend millions to clean up the place and rescue the wildlife there etc -
