How can you know a politican is good?

A politician is good depends on the type of country he/she is in. For singapore, i think the one who has the biggest outside influence in business would be best.

I never follow politics because its out of my league. I am a simple guy. However I do believe a good politician is one that has the good interest of the citizens of the nation FIRST above anything else. -

Actually, I think corruption has to do with culture. A lot of the politicians work in countries where corruption is accepted to a certain degree. Like how the leaders in the ASEAN countries all give money and power to their childrens, friends and relatives. To them there is nothing wrong with it at all, you are like a King and your children are like Prince and Princesses. You see that in some countries like Japan and USA there is a lot less charges of corruption because it is not part of their culture.

I only know that if the person do not know how to handle power and authority, it will become an abuse and misuse of power and authority. Giving money and power to their children, friends and relatives is akin to monarchy-styled governing. What happen if their children, friends or relatives are inept at handling the power given to them?
Citizens will not be happy.
Corruption stems from an impure heart and a huge desire for power. It can change a person overnight. It can destroy the person's life and worse, implicate the citizens' lives and welfare as well. Funniest of all, no one lives forever. They cannot bring the money and power with them after they pass on from this world.
Its a short-lived thing.

Only politician I respect is Mahatma Ghandi, a humble and simple person, true to his beliefs, he did not exploit his powers, by putting opposition candidates in jail, bankrupt opposition candidates, asked that he be paid an obscene amount of salary. He did what he did for the people of India, whereas these days, we have Ministers and MPs doing what they do for the sole benefit of themselves.
