some of you may have seen this stomp post, it's about tourists not being able to get a taxi possibly between 11pm and 12am.
now, singapore is a city that should be heavily reliant on public transport. while taxis do not make up public transport, as contrary to popular belief, they certainly play an important role in daily commuting.
queues at taka or city hall area can last as long as one hour during this magic hour of 11pm to 12am. just because taxi drivers are waiting for the surcharge, and the government simple does nothing about it. it really reflects badly on singapore's image as a metropolitan city, when transport becomes so inconvenient.
it seems that taxi drivers are becoming "bigger" than government and behave snobbishly. it's time to come down hard on them.

I think it came out in the paper before someone suggested dropping the taxi rental and let the drivers work OMO, their relief driver will get their own cab . Hence there will be instant doublefold increase of the nos of taxi on the road.Originally posted by seancannot:They should drop the taxi rental and taxi tax $7000 per year now ...
once the cost of renting a taxi drop more pple can take up driving taxi part time .... if you drive more 8 hours continous only make $40 or $5 per hour would you want to do that work at macdonald better
so the only way to solve the problem lie with gov and taxi compnay
Not feasible. There are many users who are local residents. High chance that they will be out of the city.Originally posted by Gazelle:I personally think they should have a taxi services that run within the city only. Maybe they can charge more since majority of the users are likely to be tourists and short journey

Before you make statements about cabbies getting their way ;Originally posted by Eiizumi:Should just abolish the midnight charge system.
It is the system that is making cabbies got his way. I don't see the point of educating the cabbies.
Unless the LTA and the cab companies are able to enforce rules of discipline among the cabbies with fines and penalties.
