  Let foreign workers drive cabs...they would work far harder than the local cabbies. Competition will force local cab drivers to work harder.

  The magic hour – between 11pm and midnight.
  Problem – fares want to avoid sucharge and taxi drivers want earn the surcharge.
  Dilemma.?
  Compromise lah. Take a cab before 11pm or after midnight lor.
  For emergency cases, dial a cab.
  I see no problem.

  Get rid of the surcharges and bring in foreign competition. Our cabbies are not hungry enough and that's why they can afford to pick and choose. There are plenty of foreign workers who would kill to do this job. Let them!

  I was booked into a hotel for a month so that I can find accomodation - the hotel is not a 4 star even - they still call a taxi for me at any time of the day. Of course everyone knows to wait for it sometimes because taxis could be ferrying politicians and their aides from the airport to Parliament house and back or officials from one department to another during certain periods.
  
  I don't see what a big deal this should be.

  I dont see how you can contribute to this thread when you have been living in australia for the past 5 to 6 years.

  in singapore even 5 star hotel cannot get taxi at peak hr unless guest willing to pay limo rate $35 per trip.
