The key issue here is government has been governing the country due to lack of check and balances under the current autocracy by legalistic wrangling of laws and regulations to pass their own duties and responsibilities to citizens.
Over the years, we have already seen too many penalties being imposed on citizens for its own negligence and inefficiencies from HDB's own poorly designed windows, lack of structural checking on buildings to illegal immigration where old lady landlords were presumed guilty of habouring illegal to mosquito breeding attributable to insufficient preemptive measures by NEA. -
Pay themselves million dollars and when HDB windows fall off... blame the people! Might as well pay the people their salary... hmmmm their salary, is from money they took from the people and if they give back... it is only giving back people their own money.... "sickos*
Just like TT Durai... 10% of the expenses went to patients. He thinks he is so great because he "helped" so many kidney patients over they years forgetting that he "helped" himself to the money even more than any individual kidney patient ever did and the money was meant for the kidney patient.... not him... just like money from state coffers is public money not meant to enrich some people. -

Its amazing how these forumers present the same view again and again in different form in as many topics.
I hope my post here is defamatory to the people who critise the government.
They are clearly unhappy losers, the tone of their post clearly expose them.
Singapore with all its short commings is still as good a place, if not better than most other places mentioned by these losers.
Which place in the world is complaint free?
Why go to a "perfect" and then feel sore about Singapore from there?
Judge a buffet in its entirety, and not by the one dish that is not to your liking.. -

Given the present deceptive methods employed by those who are shoring up their own wealth, while obviously leaving Singaporeans to fend for ourselves, and making conditions even worst for our future.
It is only natural that you will seem to see that there are more angles and views from different complainants towards the single subject culprit - which is the Government, whom many did not even get the opportunity to vote them into Office in the last May 2006 Election.
How many other countries that claim First World Status will have its Citizens lived under Third World Political, Social and Economic Conditions ? -

Well in a way I can agree with you - they should not have punitive measures but should encourage people to report in . This is a no-win situation for Singaporeans - until the next elections, if Singaporeans still remember the events of 2007.
First of all high density living in a country with scarce land is a practical option. Secondly, nature adapts easily.
The problem with their dengue program is that they relaxed too much thinking it was gone - overconfident that they dealt with the matter. It is endemic and Dengue will stay.
Another is overcrowding - why the hell do they want to target the population at 6.5 million people? It is worse than Sydney and Sydney is far bigger to cope with the overpopulation because they can always spill into suburban /rural areas. I just don't know why. -

They go on about GRC, ministers pay, elitism, freedom of expression, defamation suits, control of the press, etcetra in just about any topic in Speaker's Corner.
They have such a gnawing resentment in them, that they ignore the actual topic. They have an ulterior motive and its not presenting their opinion. It is to repeat and repeat their grouses at every opportunity in the hope that it would take root.
If I post a topic like "Would Anime help promote political awareness amongs our youths?" Very soon the debate would go off tangent into the FT/PRC debate, the defamation suits, the ministers salary, GST.............
Look into the topic "Lack of social cohesion-whose fault is it?" -

Singaporeans are forgetful (refer above in red).
There are those who argue for argument's sake. There are also those who are sincere in posting their beliefs. Nevertheless, the reader should learn to discern between the good and the bad. -
IF, there are anything or more things that are GOOD about or that the government has done, I'd gladly comment and praise them. However, the negative effects of almost ALL that they have so far done in, recent years, far outweighs any good they have done in decades past. In fact, todays problems were brought about by yesterday's policies and bright ideas...
One notable and thoughtful move by the gov in recent years, was allowing people to run businesses from their homes. The Home Business initiative. Additionally, people were also allowed to sell ice-cream and other snacks in HDB estate.
We are largely pissed and cursing them for all their Self-preserving Policies, and WEAK attempts in providing people avenues to make a living and survive under their unforgiving rules and system. -
