I don't need to pay anything at all in Australia except 43 dollars for my meds after I spend close to a week in the hospital.
And did you take a good look at your medisave? Money has been known to look like govt subsidy when your medisave is actually deducted. Call it personal experience ...Oh wow I just pay 200dollars...then medisave statement comes ...WTF. -

I never consider medisave to exist. It has been 5yrs since my father been hosipitalised. I only remember it is affordable. But however, after my father's heart attack, he need to take periodic medication and periodic medical checkup. And those medication and checkup is been subsidized by the government up to 80% (depends on what medicine). -

So basically , medicare card allows me free pass at the public hospitals. Just need to pay for the meds only and I pay Pharmaceutical Benefits Schedule price because my meds are listed on the PBS.

Until there is a party or a coalition that can be better than PAP, i doubt many are gonna stop voting for them

The only disadvantage is that they cannot afford to change technology as fast as Singapore because Singapore is a user pay system and more money can go into constant upgrading. Australian tech is up to date in the public systems but not exactly latest unless you want to be a private patient . Can't complain much. -

Conventional wisdom tells us that "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
It is for every individual to decide whether our system is broken. Apparently, the majority thinks that what we have is kinda warped, but not broken yet, hence the status quo.
Will it be too late to fix when it finally breaks? Only time will tell. -
Each time those 66.6% kind of locals vote them in, we all suffer more over the next 5 years...!!!
Nah beh lah.. when are you all going to learn? Stop voting out of fear and your Comfort Zones....
This kind of draconian governance must come to an END.. and it will, just either sooner or later that's all...

Ex-steward cleared of molestation charges
A FORMER flight steward was cleared on Tuesday of two counts of
molesting a woman colleague after the court allowed the matter to
be compounded.
Mr Francis Gerard Han Khai Meng, 34, now an assistant director with the
People's Association (Now I know what people meant when they say,
" I am making a 'strategic career move' "...), was charged in March this
year with two counts of outraging the modesty of the 24-year-old woman
on board a Singapore Airlines flight on April 26, 2004.
On both counts, he was said to have grabbed her right hand and placed
it on his private part. He had also earlier been accused of insulting her
modesty twice that day. It is not known why he was charged only this
year.
His case was originally fixed for a three-day hearing before District Judge
Roy Neighbour.
Yesterday, Assistant Public Prosecutor Simran Toor told the court that the
alleged victim and the accused had agreed on terms for composition of the
two molestation charges, and the prosecution had no objection.
As part of the settlement, Mr Han gave $10,000 to the victim as
compensation, apologised to her in open court, and will publish an apology
in The Straits Times. He was given a warning on the two charges of insult
of modesty.
Mr Han was acquitted of these charges after the prosecutor withdrew
them. The alleged victim, who was in court yesterday, declined comment.
Outraging of modesty, voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation
are charges that can be compounded. Composition is the same as an
acquittal. The alleged victim and prosecution must agree to this but the
judge has the final say.
This Han Khai Meng was a Returning Officer in GE2006.

As read from the above article, I presume that Mr Han is from PAP(Correct me if I am wrong).
Recent Cases of MP WEE(PAP) and his daughter being targeted by bloggers to step down since bloggers do not accept the insincere apologies in the straitstime.(modified extracted from xia xue blog). The local media are not allowed to broadcast exclusively on this issue.(Correct me if I am wrong)
There was no public media(excluding the internet) debating about the insincere apologies written by MP WEE in the straitstimes(Correct me if I am wrong).
Only bloggers on the internet start to bloomblast the MP WEE's insincere apology, citing a prosposal for MP WEE to step down.
People/Bloggers are starting to question why we vote for such people who call themselves the uncaring face of the elite(phrase extracted from MP Wee's daughter's offensive blogs).
My conclusion is this, PAP has gripped an alarming stronghold and POWER on the system.

PAP do have a credible background.
I believed Singapore cannot do without PAP. However, Singaporeans should not give too much POWER to PAP. In order for true democracy, there should be at least 2 governing parties in the parliament. Other wise, there will be only 1 party agenda governing 1 party's interest.
Hopefully, in the next general elections, Singaporeans can still vote to keep PAP in the parliament.
However, we should also look out for credible and strong opposition party to be voted into a parliament too.
In that way, 1 party do not govern 1 party's interest because they will be competing with each other to win the interest of common singaporeans like you and me.
Win~Win Situation.
The problem singapore faced now is that ONLY PAP has a credible background and is a strong party.
There is non other party more powerful than PAP as to date.

No contest so the people in our zone do not even have the chance to vote.

At the moment, they don't see the perceived "required calibre" within the opposition at the moment, so "hmm ok I'll vote PAP for now till WP/SDA get better people" becomes a common self justification line they use, and then end up voting for the incumbents or PAP. But its not impossible to find capable people isn't it? For instance, even in a coup de'tat like in thailand very recently, they still found people to run the country. But thats far from what we should be doing tho, just saying that its not impossible to find capable people outside the ruling party.
So how will Singapore get a credible opposition in Parliament?
Firstly, a credible opposition doesn't equate to overthrowing the government, or even a revolution. A credible opposition does not mean destabilizing the Government, which what some people fear. Overthrowing the government is not the objective here. Placing a credible opposition in parliament has to start gradually, by taking small steps.... "

As much I don't like the policies of the current government , I don't think I would want to see CSJ in power . This comes from what he did - he spoke very poorly of Singapore overseas in foreign universities (one of which was mine) to foreigners and overseas students. When I heard him , I lost total respect for him as a credible opposition member.
Singapore - I myself know is deficient in a way but telling foreigners to step in and aid ? F**k that. He would have been better placed to at least tell Singaporeans to start thinking for themselves or at the very least put as positive spin on the negatives infront of the foreigners . I watched Francis Seow once on TV and his presentation was to the point. It was directed strategically and very respectable in the way he put forth his arguments. Not bloody CSJ. -
