By the time 6.5 mil is reached, can u imagine how many more financially desperate and sick old folks there will be?
They can't and won't bluddy provide for the aging populace, and yet, they wanna increase the population size to 6.5!
They will reap what they sow...
If they want more Tax, please provide in return, decent humane provisions for those whose lives are nearing the end... not just left to clearing tables and working in McDonalds....!
If they want people to work beyond 70, at the least see to it that they can do so with decent dignity... -

One has to wonder from time to time, why an idiot like this one keeps harping that it will lead to more taxes etc. when for the most part of the last decade, the Govt keeps turning in large surpluses annually. We already have "conquered" SE Asia. We are Malaysia's second biggest investors, bought many prime land in Vietnam, we are basically the rich Indonesians piggy bank (i.e. they deposit their gazellions in our banks), we practically own Shin Corp (Thailand main communication co.), there is an extensive network of Singapore businesses in Myanmar and the Philippines, well, er we are getting employing many of them as sales, nurses, maids etc. (maybe there are some covert investments we don't know of
).
Singapore does not have any natural resources of our own, but we are good at processing this resources to a more high end product to sell at a higher price back to this countries (i.e. water, oil etc). We need our neighbours more than they need us. Once they become more well to do, what is stopping them from replicating Singapore's success? And they have a Huge domestic market to boot.
Achieving a high population is a no brainer, but we need people who can keep Singapore 2 steps ahead. Smart, forward-thinking people, not the coolie from Pakistan (sorry just a point, no offence meant). If there are more professionals from Pakistan, they are also welcome. This is an example only.
We do not need the study mamas (PRCs). But the gov want the study mamas children as they can be intergrated into mainstream society given their very young age. We need citizens that can contribute to Singapore, not suck the blood out of us! -
how easily can these ppl integrate into our society? some find it difficult to adapt and return to their homelands in the end.....

in fact, i never heard of malaysians malays taking up sg pr status. in fact, i know alot of malay frens whose parents have bought homes in malaysia to settle down in after retirement! There is nothing to attract them here (except the royal families who like singapore for shopping and clinics. got TP (traffic police) follow of course safe lah ).
the mms* are bumiputras in malaysia. This is why the other races feel marginalised and would consider to migrate to Singapore as they feel there is equal opportunity here. and they consider sg a stepping stone to other greener pastures such as Australia and USA.
so what does this mean? well, i don't know. i can't see the future. just go with the flow man.
