If you are still talking about benevolent dictatorship being good for the country that was history.
Today our ministers are not fighting for independence, freedoms or justices.
You are so sure? As I've said, there's no way we are going to know what is going through those ministers' heads as the policies have to go through the PM's hands. They make mistakes but do not admit them for years until recessions hit hard before making some small concessions. They keep taking in the name of talents or retaining talents to justify their past mistakes but have not done any serious or creditable restructuring of our own local economy so much so that today our own domestic economy is dead and we are held hostage by foreigners and foreign investors.
I'm still reserving some doubts for them, refer to above point. We are now quite empty inside and the present minor improvement of the economy is due citizens' own sacrifice from their own CPF and wage cuts and not due to major entrepreneurial restructuring of the economy by our so-called talents.
The hype of IR or property boom is just part of the natural economic cycle due to external upturns and is not likely to stay for long. What we are seeing is our newspapers' reporting only good shows of all kinds to attract foreigners to come here to cover up the real problems. If our leaders in the face of failures have to resort to replace our own citizens, the newspapers will also report it as a good news. So is such a top-down system still successful today as it was once. I let you draw your own conclusion.
The hype of IR has not started. They are not even up yet. The statistics from other countries is not an excuse for us to build two casinos. Since it's been decided and there's no way to change that, we will see how it unfolds in the next few years. Property boom, is it really true? You judge for yourself.
A top-down system although is successful, is restricted in many ways. The same reason that make it rise can cause its downfall. You should know what I mean by the above. It will take too long to go into individual policies which did not work for years and this fact was quite well written and described as "Auto-piloting" by ex-top civil servant Ngiam Tong Dow so it has been well proven. With objective and rational analysis you will soon know the truths and stop singing all the praises too early for our top-down system. Only collective leadership aimed at motivating all in practical knowledge applications by all citizens will help us to achieve the next notch of economic competitiveness. I don't know which part of my whole message hinted that I like a top-down system. I've never been fond of it, though I admit it has its own advantages.
