As reported by ST on the 28th of June (today).....
Gen Sonthi, one of the architect of former PM Thaksin Govt's overthrown and a person who was against the sale of Shin Corp to Temasek. Now, he was reported to have said in an interview in Bangkok that the sale is 'Just Business'........
Ok, after all the threat of investigation finding Temasek has broken Thai law, that there is chance that S'pore is 'Spying' on the Thai Military, that Temasek is taking the 'Country' (thai) assets.... etc. You now decided that the Sale is 'Just Business'......

Soooo many people here can't stop siding with you that Temasek is the 'Mother of All Evil' and that the Govt of S'pore is sooo 'corrupted' that the Govt could not have done a proper & 'clean' deal. Soooo many here think that you MUST have Prove on Temasek's wrong doing .... even thought you never shown any or the ppl here seen any.... that Temasek has broken Thai Law.
Now how After SOOO many of them spoken for you against Temasek, you are like playing those ppl out by -
1) Withdrawing your claim....
2) Your little interview of - It was 'Just Business'
3) Again your interview of - "We don't have any bad feeling on that..."
Then those ppl here lose face man..... after they SOOOO SURE that you were RIGHT and Teamsek + S'pore Govt MUST BE WRONG... only to have you now said...... Its "Just Business"

I think the coup is wrong in the first place.
Thaksin most probably didn't do anything wrong (except his wife) by breaking any law. So if now the junta wanna convict him, they must find him guilty to support the coup. -

The statement is unclear.
It could mean that relationship between countries would not be affected since the business transaction between Thaksin and Temasek is a private one. The Thai junta can still go after Temasek.
DonÂ’t forget that many Thais were against the sale of Shin Corp to Temasek in the first place.
At this time, this issue is not the JuntaÂ’s focus. Sonthi is concerned about the political stability in Thailand. Election is coming in November.
He also said that for national security, they want all communication systems that relate to the country's secrets to remain in the country. He has not change his stance.
Investigations are still going on whether Temasek used nominees to gain control of more than the permitted 49 per cent of Shin's satellite and mobile-phone units
The Thai government has not announce giving up plans to tighten foreign ownership laws to prevent overseas investors from using Thai nominees to circumvent limits on control of local companies.
So, itÂ’s not over yet until itÂ’s over. -

Govt could come and go, the land you live on can't go anywhere. Because people have their own agenda, and you now really look like the lap-dog you so often called any non anti-pap writers here for supporting them.
At the end, it is all Politics & Nationalism.

As matters stand, Temasek has lost the Television Station when it refused to pay a fine imposed - on Thaksin's TV Station for offenses that continued after Temasek's takeover - and the entire TV Station was taken over by the Thai Government; resulting in the overpaid price of S$3 Billion for an already hollowed shell of a Shin Corp being made more worthless with the further reduction by one TV station lost.
Are the critics wrong in ''praising the cleverness'' on the part of Temasek ?
Is Temasek not a Singapore Government Company - from a country famous for Law and Order ?
Temasek should be congratulated in accurately representing Singapore's reputation of ''breaking the Law when it suits them'' in the manner that they have broken Thai Law.
Are you helping the Singapore Government, or are you sabotaging their image ?

You should be ashamed of your claim that the ''S'pore Govt might not be perfect'' - when they believe themselves to be already living in a perfect ''First World''.
In any case, since when has the Singapore Government ever been interested to ''work in the way we wanted it to'' ?
Being loyal to Singapore does not necessarily mean having to be loyal to the Ruling Political Party, and maintain silence on the Government that it formed.
Criticizing Temasek for the stupidity of the outcome in their Shin Corp transaction is not giving a ''blank cheque support'' to the Thai Coup Leader's actions towards the Thais; nor giving support in the manner that he has acted against the mutual interests between Thailand and Singapore that began since the 1970s.
If you are less muddle headed, you will see the distinction of blind jingoistic nationalism used to cover clear illegal actions, and comparing to the solid patriotism of honorable behaviour that will withstand any tests of relationships.
''It is business'' - but Gen Sonthi did not say clearly what was the business.

When Temasek 1st brought over Shin Corp, I don't recall seeing posting here about how the deal was wrong and what problem could the deal cause. But the moment after the Coup Leader decided to use the Ship Corp issue to 'stroke' the flame of Nationalism.... so many here decided to side the Thai Military Govt in condamning S'pore. Yet no prove have yet been brought before any Thai Judges..... we kept hearing how some minister 'have prove', yet never see any. But of course some ppl here need no prove cause they already long ago decided whos right and wrong.......
btw.... We now have a Indonesian - Mr Muhammad Lutfi - who chair the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), which is indoneasia's EBD. Saids Temasek investment in indosat or Telkomsel is OK. He puts the complaints down to the media's love for "Sensationalising News that will sell newspapers". "What is good news is really, really bad news.'' , "But Investor will prevail, and all else is hot air".
But yet at the same time a Indoneasia Senator - Marwan Batubara - was quoted in saying....."The Laws put Indonesians on the same footing as foreigners. But the treatment should be different for Indonesians because we are still very far behind"
He also added...."I hope that before KPPU makes a decision, Temasek will just handover either Indonsat or Telkomsel to us."
If you can't see the 'Shadow Play' here....... then whats left to say. The sourse of the quote are from ST.... the newspaper most hated here......

Is the matter so simple as you have described - as a matter of ''Trust or lack of Trust - you have on the Govt'' ?
From the lack of transparency in all the past actions of this Government on so many major issues, can there be any trust ?
You should appreciate that when Temasek made their moves to takeover Shin Corp, how could anyone post anything about the deal being wrong - when even the Thai Authorities have no knowledge of all the secret moves made by Temasek in collaboration with Thaksin to circumvent Thai Laws ?
If anyone attempt to perform secret work in so many purposeful ways, will you be in any position to make discovery at that point in time, or will you only find out later, when slip up begin to appear through the cracks ?
If Thaksin had remained in power, perhaps he would have been in a position to block moves to find out how the deals were made that we now discover ''belatedly to be erroneous''.
Surely, those who were assigned the fiduciary responsibility in managing Temasek should understand their role to keep onto the ''right side of the Law'' - simply for the basic reason of not putting the S$3 Billion investment at any risk ?
Do we know the extent of the due diligence that were not performed, when so much wrong doings are beginning to surface as the Thais begin to dig deeper into the entire sorry episode that have seen their National Assets being sold off to Temasek ?

In an open society, where other voices are allowed to raise issues of concern - especially when dealing with National Assets - surely you will not object to the interest of the Citizens being placed BEFORE that of the State or the Individual Players ?
How many of our own Politicians - especially from the MIW - can have the audacity of the Indonesian Politician in honestly raising issues of conscience that affect the interest of the Citizens ?
At least, one should admire this Indonesia Senator - Marwan Batubara - for the courage in looking after the Citizens' ownership of their National Assets; when compared to the impotency of even our Elected President who cannot even be allowed to perform his task of protecting our National Reserves with an assigned Second Key, and Parliament is similarly impotent in using their First Key in questioning the Government's continued raiding of the funds at the Finance Ministry that should have gone into the National Reserves.
Shadow plays or Wayang Kulit - are part of the traditions of politics in the Southeast Asian region.
Why should you be concerned with this, when your concern should be directed at what has been exposed, how to overcome the present problems created by sheer negligence, and what the elected persons intend to do to check the Ruling Party that form the Government from further abusing their roles in using People's Funds. -
