SINGAPORE : 300 kilograms of crabs will be given free to 300 people, as part of the Giant Chilli Crab Feast which kicks off the 14th Singapore Food Festival.
It's a dish associated with Singapore the world over, so organisers have chosen the chilli crab to launch this year's food festival.
"This is the first time I had so many different types of crabs at one go, as we get to taste them from different stalls. There's a lot of variety as well," said a member of the public who was at the Giant Chilli Crab Feast.
Organisers distributed 150 Chilli Crab vouchers for the crab feast on Friday, and the queue at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, where the festival will take place, started to form as early as 10am.
Another 150 vouchers will be given out at the same place on Saturday at 4pm.
Those with vouchers can enjoy chilli crabs at the event from 7pm on Saturday.
There will also be other local delights at the Chilli Crab Feast which marks the opening of the Singapore Food Festival.
55 food-related free programmes will be available islandwide as part of the food festival.
The Singapore Food Festival ends on July 31. - CNA /ls
