Just to add, autocratic rule is I think applicable in few countries, and Singapore is one of them. The majoity of people of Singapore are so easily manipulated, timid, docile, fearful and so on. Their mentality is better don't this and that if not the govt will put you in jail! It takes two to clap!!Originally posted by rane:To answer your question, answer is yes. As in management study, we are taught, autocratic rule is outdated and is negative. It is only beneficial to one side.

The same autocracy is hurting our relations with neighouring countries in ASEAN.
if autocracy has anything to do with these two issues with Indonesia and Thailand, then, it is for once we need the government to be autocratic and stand firm against illegal military regime who do not respect commerical agreements and we will not be held for ransom by any corrupted government.Originally posted by robertteh:Indonesia is banning sand import to and void the recently signed Defence Pact with Singapore. your last statement - yes, people keep electing them!!! Reasons being majority of singaproeans are timid, docile, fearful, easily manipulated and thus prefers autocracy. so to those who don't mind the ruling party who complain about the way the ruling party is running the country, you all are slapping yourselves on your faces, what a great joke!! If you people support pay and pay, support them all the way through even when they give themselves super high pay, continue to raise the cost of living in a short time. So don't complain, supporters of pay and pay!!! You are just reaping what you sow! ha ha ha!Originally posted by sgdiehard:if autocracy has anything to do with these two issues with Indonesia and Thailand, then, it is for once we need the government to be autocratic and stand firm against illegal military regime who do not respect commerical agreements and we will not be held for ransom by any corrupted government.

We miss great opportunities to use our initial success to restructure to a more mature economy and enlightened democracy because of persistent self-centredness of one man.Originally posted by sgdiehard:if autocracy has anything to do with these two issues with Indonesia and Thailand, then, it is for once we need the government to be autocratic and stand firm against illegal military regime who do not respect commerical agreements and we will not be held for ransom by any corrupted government.

Matters with Thailand and Indonesia are foreign affairs, should our domestic situation decides how we run our foreign policies??Originally posted by robertteh:We miss great opportunities to use our initial success to restructure to a more mature economy and enlightened democracy because of persistent self-centredness of one man.
Things need not get to the situation today where majority of citizens are struggling to meet ends meet with dropping wages and frail domestic economy caused by wrong policies of taxing and killing the goose that lays the golden egg.
