Surveys are to show people that people agree.
If i am not wrong, Mr Teo ever said recent surveys say Singaporeans support NS and ready to serve when time comes.
Army camp cookhouse "surveys" are also tweaked.
Last time when I was in Secondary school, i remember i was intentionally sideline during a MOE school audit because i am known to write letters to MOE. -
You think ST will publish anything anti-government sentiments?

Who believes in surveys? Straits Times is a load of bullcrap. Why din they interview me or you or anyone from SgF? It is suspect that there was even such a survey having been conducted at all.........!

Do not expect our Straits times to sing any tune other than the praises of our gahmen.
On the other hand, the 7% GST has been hyped up by the local retail industry - for every $100 paid, you are paying an additional $2.
It's not a massive rise, but enough to hurt the lower-income bracket.
Best thing is to tighten your purse, spend less and be more frugal. Ultimately, if overall expenditure goes down, shops will HAVE TO bring down their prices or suffer massive losses.

I guess the damage will come slow but in a steady rate. On longer term, with combination of external economic factors, there might be something like what happened in 97, economic crisis.
When you don't spend much, most people would have then followed or did the same, as in a major shift in spending, would bring prices crashing from a height of what they was, or it would climb up from more than it is really worth if people contimue spending. More or less reach a saturation point, where there will be economical breakdown.
Then, everyone will be in danger, even those who got a few hundred bucks as GST package.
Those who got their GST package and said they enjoyed what the 'big parents' gave them would be regretting saying that in a few months time.
My family's GST package we split among all of us, even kids got it and we go spend them all before 30th June, knowing its totally useless.
When people call me for survey, I ask them for what, if for money/legal related matters, or for the 'big parents', I turn them down immediately. I don't want to be locked up some where being a political prisoner. -

number 2....do you think those interviewed would dare say that the whole gst thingy is crap....even if they did, it would be censored and not be included at all....seriously....I have known sillyporeans to either not bother about the survey and just answer in the politically correct way...we have learnt to take survey here with a pinch of salt.....also if official figures are released....I usually multiply the figure by 2 or 3 times...ege unemployment

Have anyone come across those pre- and post-independence era news. With ang mo newscasters. Somehow it is remarkably similiar to those that existed in the UK and australia. The news were served with a huge dallop of propaganda. Except now, it doesn't have ang mo newscasters or come with the heavily accented queen's english pronounciation. The mass media is certainly a good way to deliver a message or two to us lowly population. And the government knows this, being a british colony previously. Hence, it has carried on today, with propaganda aka brain-washing. But sadly, the mass media is not totally independent from the government. True to say, if it was, there would be upheaveal every now and then. Hence, the government's grip on the mass media. We were even once told we are not 'mature' enough to be hearing news of an alternative side.
So are we the population suppose to remain as mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed lots of bullshit? I believe most of us are matured enough to have our own views. If this was not evident, sgforums would have closed down long ago.
To have us hear that almost all of the paticipants of the survey agreed to the GST hike, is downright ridiculous. What happened to a normal distribution curve? Ohhh wait... was it only the '66.6% population' they got in the survey? -
Hi Toad...well...my guess is that they got only the pro GST increase camp to do the survey....sometimes...when I read the postings and all the complaints, I just take a step back and laugh it off...to think that the gahmen has worked us up with all their bullshit....sometimes I realize that it is better to cool down and just brush it off by saying that its propaganda again...better to be one of the smarter ones and make a better life for ourselves instead of discussing these policies....they say its consultative but they will still push thru their policies anyway...no 2 ways about it....if they know that a policy will never work, they will never even bring it up thru the proper channels, and that's why you will never even hear about it....and if they start to push a policy, do you think they will back off?
