In the neighbourhood hawker centre, the price is up but I observed beside makan hour, most of the hour in the coffeeshop is empty only some peopleOriginally posted by BillyBong:Do not expect our Straits times to sing any tune other than the praises of our gahmen.
On the other hand, the 7% GST has been hyped up by the local retail industry - for every $100 paid, you are paying an additional $2.
It's not a massive rise, but enough to hurt the lower-income bracket.
Best thing is to tighten your purse, spend less and be more frugal. Ultimately, if overall expenditure goes down, shops will HAVE TO bring down their prices or suffer massive losses.
The result of a closed money system.
Relax lah....number 1, is ST surveys to be trusted? nah....biggest reason is ST is tied to gahmen.....periodOriginally posted by joola74:Heh, i read about the survey done by the strait times about the public feedback of the GST bonus on the 30 June.
What amaze me is how they only manage to find those siliyporean's(i wonder if they were getting paid to say what they were told to say) saying how they thanks the government for giving out the GST bonus package and how happy they were when they saw the GST bonus in their account.
Wah, what puzzle me more was, where were those peoples who oppose the GST hike?Don't tell me 10 out of 10 they pick from the public all so damn happy with the tiny little GST bonus package that they forgotton that..., very very fast their happy moment will be gone and they will have to suffer the GST hike!!!
If you are one of those Pro PAP or damn hardcare PAP supporters now reading my articles here, i got something to say for you.If you want to blindly support your party, hope when one day you people met with unlucky inccident and happen to get broke, then god bless you peoples! You PAP hardcore supports will reap the fruit you guys sow in our motherland!!!

Hi Toad...well...my guess is that they got only the pro GST increase camp to do the survey....sometimes...when I read the postings and all the complaints, I just take a step back and laugh it off...to think that the gahmen has worked us up with all their bullshit....sometimes I realize that it is better to cool down and just brush it off by saying that its propaganda again...better to be one of the smarter ones and make a better life for ourselves instead of discussing these policies....they say its consultative but they will still push thru their policies anyway...no 2 ways about it....if they know that a policy will never work, they will never even bring it up thru the proper channels, and that's why you will never even hear about it....and if they start to push a policy, do you think they will back off? There is something called saving face and to do a u-turn on a policy would mean that the gahmen is incapable....Originally posted by Croaking_Toad:Have anyone come across those pre- and post-independence era news. With ang mo newscasters. Somehow it is remarkably similiar to those that existed in the UK and australia. The news were served with a huge dallop of propaganda. Except now, it doesn't have ang mo newscasters or come with the heavily accented queen's english pronounciation. The mass media is certainly a good way to deliver a message or two to us lowly population. And the government knows this, being a british colony previously. Hence, it has carried on today, with propaganda aka brain-washing. But sadly, the mass media is not totally independent from the government. True to say, if it was, there would be upheaveal every now and then. Hence, the government's grip on the mass media. We were even once told we are not 'mature' enough to be hearing news of an alternative side.
So are we the population suppose to remain as mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed lots of bullshit? I believe most of us are matured enough to have our own views. If this was not evident, sgforums would have closed down long ago.
To have us hear that almost all of the paticipants of the survey agreed to the GST hike, is downright ridiculous. What happened to a normal distribution curve? Ohhh wait... was it only the '66.6% population' they got in the survey?
That's why many of us left for greener pastures.....Originally posted by sexyfats:in spore, you have no choice but to vote for pap. the opposition are just paper puppets, for deco.. -_-
When they left greener pastures, chances of them coming back here is not high.Originally posted by Coquitlam:That's why many of us left for greener pastures.....
I think that is the same exact reason why there are so many PRCs in singapore ... Its more due to the push factor ...Originally posted by will4:When they left greener pastures, chances of them coming back here is not high.

But when I look at PAP's opposition, most of them CMI.
How do you expect majority of the people to support the opposition?
One opposition leader acted like gangster. Expect ppl to vote for them?

hmm. welfare state not necessary a good thing. it will lead to over-dependency on govt handouts. see hongkong and the British Welfare system. British hospitals in the 80s were horrible. Because healthcare was free people had to queue for one day to see the doc in the hospital since everyone also want to see doc. (cant imagine what will happen to kiasu singaporeans if hospitals were to be free) see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welfare_stateOriginally posted by Zelphon:Yup...Australia has higher tax rates...
But the annual salary of their citizens is damn high as compared to singapore.
So in a sense, the high tax rate and the high income offsets each other.
Even the pizza delivery guy makes 16 Australian Dollars per hour.
Compare that to the SG$3 to SG$4 per hour a person makes in McDonald.
Then they have a WELFARE system. S'pore don't.
Who NOW TELL ME WHICH COUNTRY TAKES CARE OF IT"S CITIZEN BETTER !!?!?!
