40 years of national service or national slavery?

Some who can contribute to the nation by serving military, some don't wish to serve military but wish to contribute in other ways but they are drafted into forces by force. 40 years of national service or national slavery?

National Service is just that...... service to the National as the national see fits. How is it 'fair' if each person could chose how and when he/she serve
Since the birth rate in S'pore is low..... how about I chose to serve by F****** around more.... Would you consider that as 'National Service'
If it was 'national slavery' as you have put it..... then it won't be 2 1/2 year, but 20 years to live. Like it or not, National Service is part of being a S'porean. Not Happy Go blame your parent for giving birth to you here..... or not move to another country sooner.

Yes like it a not one has to serve, i believe there are more than 2 views those who feel neccessary will be regarded as service, those who feel compelled and reluctance will see it as slavery. Can anyone deny such existence?
Slave in dictionary means a person who is legally owned by someone else and has to work for them. Are we not legally owned and has to work for them during the period of 2 or 2 1/2 years? -
