what i meant to say is, if the gov't can still be so unforgiving towards one of these former dissidents of a bygone era, what makes them any more forgiving to these would-be terrorists of this current time?
thats the way it is here. its not so much strong arms tactics. they don't work. instead, they discredit u, ignore u and kill u slowly... that way, they get rid of the perceived threat without the resulting PR fallout. dissidents don't exist if nobody talks about them, talks to them or believes them.
its a much more effective approach than hanging them or flogging their buttocks. u just make them heroes that way.
don't take everything out of context. we are talking about terrorists here, not the oppressive gov't, the crummy one party state or your unhappiness with the gov't.

these people are terrorists, not the average political dissidents we have in the streets. Communist 'then' didn't plan to blow up a fraction of Singapore with 8 tons of explosives. These mfs had the intentions to kill, so why should we allow them to live at all? JI's plans to sabotage our water pipe lines and water work plants are fucking serious. blowing up water pipes will have complications indeed, and they may take the opportunity to increase the price as a pre-condition to continuation of supply since the act was perpetuated by a third party and not the cause of aggression on their part.
such a situation would be troublesome, but not fatal since we can't pin the attack on them and they certainly will not take credit for the attack... the treaties will still stand and it is certainly possible to resolve it without resorting to arms.2 years are too short to be forgotten, besides these bastards had committed capital crimes, death is what they deserve.

BUT... so far... recent revelations appears to be hinting on some thing else....
I somehow... got this feeling that the SAF is hinting that JI might actually be under MAF's or malaysian ISD's payroll.... OR SAF could be giving malaysia a subtle warning that IF MAF tries to sabotage singapore economy through covert means... SAF will and can obliterate malaysia... in retaliation.
why i think so?.... well for a start... there are only 30 to 40 members in JI so far... most in menial jobs with low pay... even if they contribute 10 percent of their salary to the JI... it still doesnt amount to much at all.... yet they have the finances to buy up to 7 tons of ammonium nitrate and send group members all the way to afgan to train.... PLUS they have to give up to 25 percent of funding to support malaysia JI and 25 percent of their funds to indonesia JI.... how could 30 or 40 JI members come up with so much money ??? they seems a bit TOO rich!! i think the ISD should concentrate on this money trail... it could prove enlightenning....
Dont know if i read the subtle message clearly though... but i think without a doubt... that the annoucement thus far by singapore officials seems to hint or at least, its an indirect warning to malaysia not to use covert means to undermine singapore... as the consequence could be severe.... for malaysia.
Afterall... had the bomb went off.. and if singapore choose to conviniently place the blame on malaysia as the JI intended (real or not is irrelevant) and starts rushing north... i think malaysia will regret it too late....
In short... if singapore is destablised..... IF Al Q... can finance singapore JI... why not malaysia JI or KMM and indonesia fanatics directly??? why go the extra trouble of sending the money to singapore first and then send to others in the region??? it would also make regional other islamic militant more obedient to the AL Q.....had AL Q directly financed them.
Another point i find weird is that the govt while continuously claim that the local JI is linked to Al Q... it did not mention nor hint that Al Q... was funding local JI... instead the govt claimed that the JI locally is funding JIs and other similar organizations from its OWN pockets... which is very very funny as i noted that the number of members in local JI unit is small, mainly of lower income group and the donation is a pittance to begin with..
of course we really dont know how much is the figure to begin with as to make an assumption on the amount of cash moving around... but i would surmise it to be a significant sums... else how come 50 percent of the money collected locally can be use to support other reagional militant?? i would assume that if the sum is a pittance... the local JI would not be in any position to finance other regional militants....
So... if the money assume not from AL. Q... where is the money from??? local donations?? kind of an oddity here...
