what most people don't realise is that all these years, they've been made to believe that where singapore is today is entirely due to the PAP.Originally posted by unclebutcher:a significant number of people here are opposed to or are simply anti PAP. what i don't understand is, Singapore is where we are today because of the PAP government, from the 1960s to present. note i am NOT a PAP supporter. i cant vote. im a minor. i disagree with some of their policies, e.g. 7 % GST hike.
but what we should keep in mind is that, for all its shortcomings and stifling of freedom(press or otherwise), we should appreciate the PAP.
To TS:note i did not say anything to the effect that what is bolded in this forumnite's post.
this is nonsense. It doesnt mean that they did something right in the past means that they will be right in the present or in the future.
Look at the situation now (NOT before) and vote wisely.
so?my intention for this thread is to ask fellow forumnites to think about what the PAP has done for us in the past. i am not saying that they will always be an infallible party. i'm just saying that this is the party that has brought Singapore thus far; at least accord them some respect.[/b]
past performance is not an indicator of future ones
we can appreciate them, but that should never be the only thing, neither should it inhibit our quest for progress in the society

You may want to look beyond the surface when you look at Singapore, the present govt and the building of Singapore. Of course, we are thankful for what the present govt did in the past to bring Singapore this far. Bear in mind, the building of Singapore is not by the present govt alone, it is together with the people of Singapore. So sorry to say that we are made believe to think that PAP or MM Lee built Singapore alone. Nobody can cope with such great project like building a country alone.Originally posted by unclebutcher:a significant number of people here are opposed to or are simply anti PAP. what i don't understand is, Singapore is where we are today because of the PAP government, from the 1960s to present. note i am NOT a PAP supporter. i cant vote. im a minor. i disagree with some of their policies, e.g. 7 % GST hike.

I would like PAP to know, portfolios are as useless as when older locals tries to seek employment in Singapore...Originally posted by eagle:This is a sentence well said!
Sadly, this is the point the PAP tries to drive across every election: "look at our portfolio blah blah blah"

Goh Keng Swee retired in 1984 according to today's STOriginally posted by googoomuck:PAP is the name of a political party . The members in the early years were more enthusiastic and capable.
Just cannot understand why the capable ministers had to retire early for personal reasons or to make way for new blood, while LKY is the last man standing.
These pioneer batch of ministers, civil servants, with the help of Dutch econmist Albert Winsemius, the Israelis who helped build the SAF and the CITIZENS of Singapore brought Singapore to where she is today.
In short, it was a group effort.
