From what I know, the HK government thought of imposing a tax similar to GST. However it was faced with perpetual and violent objection from the HK citizens. That's y they din have GST.Originally posted by jlzk:Are you sure they do not have GST?Cause from what i know from my teachers they do have and its quite unlikely to have a country without tax.

2/5X100%=40%
I heard that that GST will rise to 10% in year 2010 correct me if i am wrong.Calculate from now 7% GST it will be a increase of 3/7X100%=42.857142857142857142857142857143% round off to 3sig fig =42.9% rise
So once again from 1/7/06 to 2010 year there will be 42.9% if you use the old amount from last time before 1/7/06 rise of GST 5/5X100%=100% rises of GST so you see..Though they say only 2% from 5% to 7% its darn alot ...
So what are your view?Agree or Disagree with me that the GST is alot...Though the government emphasis that our GST is one of the lowest but still Hong Kong is still overall the lowest.!

They do not have anything along the lines of GST/VAT at all. As a matter of fact, they did deliberate over this issue because they were having problems funding a generous social welfare program with the present tax revenues (although their corporate and personal income taxes are higher than Singapore's as far as I can recall) collected.Originally posted by jlzk:Are you sure they do not have GST?Cause from what i know from my teachers they do have and its quite unlikely to have a country without tax.
