Cheeky China company suing Google over name

A Chinese company is suing Google's China subsidiary for copying its name, saying the U.S. search engine's registered Chinese name is too similar to its own and has harmed its operations.
A spokesman for Beijing Guge Science and Technology said similarities between its name and Google's commercial name have created confusion among people who, in trying to contact the search engine, mistakenly call Beijing Guge's office and disrupt work there.
"We just want Google to change their commercial name," Tian Yunshan, a company official, told Reuters on Friday. "We have already passed our demands on to Google ... We will see what happens in court."
The search engine's Chinese name--a transliteration of the English word "Google"--was also used in Beijing Guge's commercially registered name, Tian said.
People searching for Google through a local telephone directory assistance service were invariably directed to Beijing Guge because the search engine was not listed, Tian explained.
The case had been accepted by a court in Beijing's Haidian district, the Beijing News reported. It was not immediately clear if the case has any chance of success.
Tian declined to comment on Beijing Guge's operations or its products or services, saying it was "not convenient" to disclose such details.
A Google representative contacted by telephone declined to confirm the lawsuit and said she was unable to provide immediate comment. -
The hiliarity of this article, is that China being a World Reknown copying and piracy country, is sueing Google...?
They certainly do not know or have any sense of proportion.... neither have any in depth understanding of the word, COPY. -
One question is enough to throw their claim out of the court's windows:
"Is Guge, an English word?" -
I think what's find is China is the one country that has more copyright issues than anyone else. Moreover, that's the number place at the moment with fakes of just about anything that can be sold. From medicine to software to fashion accessories.
Yeah, it's pretty ironic. -
Actually Guge may have a case. ItÂ’s the Chinese characters of Google and Guge being the same that caused the confusion, not because the English pronunciation of Google and Guge rhymed.
If Guge sues and win, Google ChinaÂ’s subsidiary will have to change the Chinese name with different characters.
Google may in turn kick that bugger's ass who coined the current Chinese name for Google.

First off, Guge isn't English. And WHO, came up with the chinese characters? Certainly not Google?
I say no case at all.. they're just embarrassing themselves against Google which has been established way before them...
For all we knwo, this China company may be using such a ruse to make money since their business is ailing...

If Google isn't dumb enough to adopt a Chinese name, they might have saved themselves of the trouble.

In any case, the Beijing government has already accepted the case. Using English name doesn't help, because Guge will find trouble with that.
Google might also want to learn from Yahoo! China also. It's not over copyright issues that Yahoo! China faced, but some internal issues related to China. Learn from Yahoo! China team how China works to win... -
