Which country in the world, the ministers pay themselves so much for luxurious living and complain about sick people going to class C wards? I think you are apathetic, IMHOOriginally posted by shilin:Why are we arguing over such things, (where there's no concrete effects from the parliament talk).
When ... other countries are facing corrupted judiciary system, from mata to PM.
When .. other countries don't even know what the hell their government is doing.
Not apathetic, just my own opinion.
I will be blunt, are you a coward who is too afraid and too stupid to face the truth?Originally posted by shilin:Why are we arguing over such things, (where there's no concrete effects from the parliament talk).

not a step backward, but a quantum leap.. seems like jaya doesn;t fully understand the the constitution...er.. maybe there isn;t one..Originally posted by maurizio13:A step backwards for the legal system.
Just as arrogant and autocratic as before, nothing changes about their ways. Control as much as they can so they can stay in power forever, worst than those emperors in China in the ancient times.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Utter arrogance.
The Law Minister has no right to threaten an NCMP with a Commission of Inquiry just at a whim or fancy.
If he can substantiate his points with facts, then we shall talk. If not, it's just throwing a whole bunch of hot air. This is politics, and if there is a perception like this, then it must be addressed, not telling the person who raised this to sit down and shut up.
Haven't they learnt at all? Oh I forgot, they lack the requisite intellect.
It is OK, everything is working out fine as they have so much control to make sure they stay in power forever and ever.Originally posted by Calvin86:I think the PAP still think its the pre-internet days where they can do what they want.
The more authoritarian they are, the more likely they would lose support among the younger generation.
that's the way they are treating singaporeans, as MM did mention about treating . . . . as children.Originally posted by HyperFocal:You know, the way parents frightens a child not to go into a dark place without explaning why but just admonishing; "eee,, dark dark there, got monster in there don't go!"
Very similar.....
But don't you think Sylvia knows where to thread and where not to thread?
I feel she has backup plans...
Very true . Law exist to protect their selfish interest so they can stay in control and do whatever they can to their advantage. They think Singapore belong to them only and they have the say but not the people or NCMP.Originally posted by Fingolfin_Noldor:The law in this land exists only to serve the state and not the people. Oh wow... our "elected" president. Everyone knows he is just a highly expensive rubber stamp with no mind of his own; if he has one.Originally posted by linchiling:Offering a different perspective, Nominated MP Thio Li-Ann noted that although the Prime Minister would be given new powers, there would also be a "series of checks and balances" — the Elected President would have to approve those appointed by the Prime Minister.
Tanjong Pagar GRC MP Indranee Rajah, a practising Senior Counsel, also singled out the President's role.
Originally posted by Atobe:Well, it's their own people in it, thus how credible can it be! and do we trust the present PM for his choice, really questionable! Some said it is worst than a communist country, China.
It is sheer pathetic irony the innocent manner that Law Minister Jayakumar attempted to project with his statement concerning the entire legal system that has been cleverly designed by his own Mentor.
The fact that the PM pick his men is clear, and having the men's name submitteed to the President, who is supposed to act on his own discretion is similarly of little consequence - as the President is also ''selected by the influentially strong unseen hands'' in the PM's Ruling Party.
The Chief Justice is similarly handpicked by the PM and proposed for the ''consideration and approval'' by [b]HIS President, supposedly acting on ''his own discretion''.
With all the men hand picked by the PM's office is it any wonder that even the uninitiated get a whiff of the strong smell of conspiracy ?
When JBJ was persecuted by the Parliamentary Privilege Committee, nearly 98% of the Committee were stuffed by MPs from the Ruling Party.
Even a Primary School kid will know that fairness can hardly exist when one is judged by those whom he had derided.
Singapore a member of the First World Community ?
Not by a long shot when the politics practised in Singapore is no better than that of North Korea or Zimbabwe at worst, and similar to Communists China at best.

He will use the 6-man grc to get in by blocking with another heavy-weight minister. That is precisely the reason for increasing the size of GRC to 6.Originally posted by t_a_s:vote Jaya out the next time, he can anyhow reprimand ppl, so what is the use of parliement, cant question anything, if u question more it is conspiracy, this is called democratic country ? ppl will laugh
