I've lived in New Zeland for the past three years, while I've enjoyed my time over there, I don't necessary think their standard of living is better than ours. Most of their youth are in debts and they never quite clear it till they die. They help their poor a lot, so much so that I often see people who deliberately choose not to work because the income from working is actually lower from the government grant. The taxation system and income distribution is almost communist, University lecturers for examples don't earn much more than Kindagarden Teachers, which led to regular strikes.Originally posted by soul_rage:Actually I don't mind hiring foreign talent such as new zealanders or finnish to come over to Singapore and run our govt.
They are
1) Cheaper (a FACT)
2) Presumably better (given that their standard of living is better than SG)
Most of those bunch of clowns up there are earning too much. Using FT will cut off unnecessary costs by retrenching these bunch of clowns and use it for the poor
So in the 3 years that you were there? What were you doing? Studying or employment? Are your observations an accurate portrayal of the total population?Originally posted by wisefool83:I've lived in New Zeland for the past three years, while I've enjoyed my time over there, I don't necessary think their standard of living is better than ours. New Zealand has its charm and I certainly wouldn't mind staying there for my whole life, but it's not as perfect as it would seem from here.
Oh, on a second note, although their ministers are not paid as much as ours, they often run into money scandals, Don Brash and his party were associated with Exclusive Bretham due to some dodgy donations. The Attorney General didn't pay his own company's tax or something, some trade minister got Thais to work on his house for free in exchange for rights to stay and the ruling Labour party attempting to pass retrospective laws to clear themselves of misusing campaign funds and such. (Pls not that I'm pulling this off the back of my head and if any of these don't seem right to you, please feel free to correct me and I will edit the post accordingly)

By your logic, you will probably not even support Sun Yat Sen as it would be seen as betrayal of the Manchus too - as you will rather not disturb the status quo ?

Are you saying the Manchus and the Mings are both Hans ?
I take it that you would let the gates down for the Manchus to come in to destroy the Ming dynasty if you were there. The general who collaborated with the enemy whom he had been fighting for years so that he could become a king/duke himself. [/b]

Was I being negative to your printed reply to ST - when all that I had stated were two simple questions :- ''So what is your paranoia about - if information is lost once the thread becomes old and forgotten ?Originally posted by Daddy!!:
you are rather negative with what i write. I stated that "the information is lost once the thread becomes old and forgotten." I think this is fair. I am a new member to this forum and I find it is very difficult to trace threads for useful information. from which part of this statement did i accuse you with anything at all? boi song see mee.[/b][/quote]
For a new member, you seem to be very liberal with your judgment towards the views put up by others, while you have not offered any opinions or views of any substance ?
With an overload of propaganda from a controlled mass media, I place high value to anyone's presentation that shows original thinking, giving new and reasonable perspective on issues - even if it is controversial and can hold up to scrutiny by others.
What have you to offer by joining this Speaker's Corner ?
Are you here for some entertainment - a question which you asked of me ?
The danger with ''one liner statement'' - in your response to ST's reply - is that it allows anyone to read it in a few different ways - as reprinted below.

I think its a very relevant question.
You seem quite obsessed for an answer - what is with the obsession ?
Principally wrong.
Chee has been an underdog, and deserves all the help that underdog deserves - despite his situation, I give him credit for perseverance and not attempting to be like some who are adapt at being obedient dogs on the carpet - some very learned carpet beggars.
when you can't compete in the arena of ideas, you insult. typical liberal mode of operation.
If you want to know how I can be of use to underdogs, you should consider yourself to be a good underdog like Chee, and you may also receive my supportive attention.

Atobe, if all you can do is to give credit to an underdog and cannot do more, you are powerless and useless.Originally posted by Atobe:Being a new kid at this Corner, you have alot to learn - first thing first, do you think I need any help so far ?

Aren't they the ones who lead by example and bring in foreign talents to Singapore?
Now, don't tell me foreign talents in the private sector, and foreign talents to run a 'corporate-style' country is different.
The way our govt runs the country as a corporation, there is no reason for them to have double standards.
On the contrary, I have friends who emigrated there, they provided me a picture contrary to what wisefool83 has provided. I am sure my friend who has lived there for 7-8 years provide a more credible and unbias view as to you or wisefool83 (who probably stayed there 3 years studying using his parents money).Originally posted by sgdiehard:It really doesn't matter what he did, but having lived there for 3 years, his observations are definitely far more accurate and relevant than any of you who have just been there for holidays, or have you been there?his portrayal of the kiwis has far greater credibility than many of you here who probably have not spoken to any kiwi at all in your life.

Your reply just confirmed my assumption that " you would let the gates down for the Manchus to come in to destroy the Ming dynasty if you were there. If the Manchu is an unknown factor, will you not get them to help you overthrow the Ming - who is already a known card on the table ?
Have you not learnt anything from the Mentor's own methods of riding the Tiger to reach the top of the hill ?
You avoided answering my question if you will not help Sun Yat Sen to overthrow the Manchus, or will you prefer to keep to the status quo and not disrupt the social peace of the day ?

dont assume he was a student in NZ yet. Let him say something about it. Judging from his nick suffixing with 83, probably his year of birth, he most probably was studying there as a student. His scope is limited to only student friends, not working friends, therefore his view is only limited to school life.![]()
