I thought I heard the Telco is not collecting any due ... did I heard it wrongly ... btw, the show started ... now singing only the president can understand ...

you did not hear wrongly, it is true. Of course, the singtel can afford, they are rich. They are rich by over charging subscribers. Just to side track a little. I signed up for the promotional plan and the plan is about $32/$33 per month and entitle to one month's free subscription. They sent me the bill and the charge is $100+. I was so infuriated. I called and talked to the customer service staff politely and the staff was so rude so I told him off and he shouted at me. Damn really lousy service Singtel is providing. How come there are two English comperes and one Mandarin compere, what happen to the Tamil and Malay comperes? Singapore is consists of the other two races, too, why so unfair to include only the Mandarin compere?"
BY the way, I just managed to switch channel and watch for about 30 seconds and that is it. I won't support this puppet charity. I am better off watching cable.

let's not donate... heck them... enjoy ourselves by doing any of the following activities...
1) surf net
2) watch "tian ya xia yi"
3) sleep
4) pcc
5) watch cable
6) make love
7) day dream
etc
etc
i think any of these activities are better than watching this stupid president start charity
but, we can still watch those clowns making a fool of themselves, just don't donate will do -
It's ironic that in the end, charities involving the president will go fulll circle and hinge on the exhorbitant pay of the most expensive 'prata man'.
'Donate generously' they say (govt), but hey, paying themselves millions instead of putting any of it into a needy fund has never been raised as a viable alternative.
Funny how our absurb system works. Still, can't take away the fact that there are some MPs and ministers who indeed contribute generously.... -

Yesterday I was approached by two different persons to donate to the President Star Charity.. I donated. It then strike me, why must there is a donation drive asking common folk to donate when the Presidents and the Cabinet minister is drawing hugh salary.. If a common folk salary is on average $1200 per month and donated $10, that would be about 0.83%. If the President and the Minister donate same percentage, there won't be a need to have this drive right ?? Please correct me if I am wrong. [/b]

To those tin can clangers, I always say, "Thank you", with a smile and walk on.
I am never ruffled, and I don't donate because I simply don't want to stop and dig for my coins.
To any solicitations that come by mail.
To any TV Whatever Star Charity.
But I have donated money...
Once to Salvation Army bell ringer at Centre Point during Christmas.
One blind busker at Raffles Place, who sang quite oK.
One mentally challenged girl at Tampines ez Food Court.
One man who wanted 70 cents for just a cup of coffee.
Once in a while here and there, ad hoc. -

YOU ARE PATHETIC. all of you keep talking about those with huge salary not donating a cent, are you any better than them??? What is that so proud to be about not donating? don't say that you are poor and bla bla bla. The fact that you are using internet already tells that you are NOT poor.
The donated money goes to help needy people, and if you dont wanna help those people then at least do not disencourage others to want to donate.
You keep talking about how rich people should give 1% of their salary to charities. What stops you from doing that? If you are earning, let's say 1k, is giving away 10 bucks gonna make so much difference to you??? But it will make huge difference to those people who REALLY need the help of people who CAN help. -

President S R Nathan took centre stage for the first time, reciting a poem called The Desiderata by Max Ehrmann.

A long time before the NKF saga, I already know that of every dollar I donate to organised charitiers, only a few cents goes to to the charities concerned.
I saw that about 30% to 40% actually go to the charities.
The NKF revelation was no surprise to me, but the amount.. was staggering.
I rather donate direct, in cash, to the neighbourhood needy, according to my conscience.
Anyone who wish to respond to organised charities, do so, by all means, and you have my respect.
But don't preach to me about the spirit of giving.

So, President Star Charity 207 have come to an end. We can see that the majority of the fund raised comes from big organisation. In this case, should they keep the students out of it to concentrate on study or other useful activities ? Mediacorp can continue with the show as it is a great revenue churner.. The whole show I recorded was about 2 hrs 40 mins .. after deleting the advertisement, the show is about 1 and half only ....
