To provide better service so they increase the fare, this is a common excuse they give every year. It is more of making profits than any other reasons that gahmen approve the application of the hike every year. I don't remember any one year they did not increase the fare. don't think it is justified to increase the fare every year. Was helping to do a project on transport in a consulting firm, somewhere in the text it said that public transport is provided by government to serve the nation, therefore making profit should not be their priority instead service to the people should be the priority.Originally posted by Rock^Star:A well presented article and hence, easy on the eyes.
It presents a chronology of public transport fare hikes since 1990 and how SMRT and SBSTransit have continually seen their profits rise every year.
Therefore, is it really due to soaring oil prices that have prompted the operators to increase fares or is it due to monetary greed?
You be the judge.

Last recently I heard commuters grumbling; that fares have increased many folds, but service standards is still the same - lacklustre...Originally posted by qlqq9:To provide better service so they increase the fare, this is a common excuse they give every year. So, well, it is no surprise that there is going to be another hike in fares in October. Afterall, the gahmen have been increasing the essentials these past few months!!! They are doing the usual, "squeezing" every cent out of the people of Singapore. GReedy!!!
ya, still have the cheek to raise the fares. Just two days ago, I flagged the bus and the bus driver pretended not to see me and drove away. See this sort of bad service!Originally posted by HyperFocal:Last recently I heard commuters grumbling; that fares have increased many folds, but service standards is still the same - lacklustre...
Here you go:Originally posted by qlqq9:oops, miss asking the question - is online citizen.com controlled by the MIWs?
There are people who have accepted the annual increment for the fares. They don't mind the PTC, gahmen, increase the fares by few cents each year rather than increase the fare once in a few years by more than few cents.Originally posted by Rock^Star:How long and how much more do Singaporeans have to put up with this?
In fact not for very long cause a lot of thses talented locals about 800 have chosen to migrate to other countries each year.Originally posted by Rock^Star:How long and how much more do Singaporeans have to put up with this?

Remember plenty of local left when the bus fare is increased during recession.Originally posted by bigmouthjoe:Not again! Hopefully it is not true because if it's true, PTC can disband. They are just a waste of time and money.
