I would like to do some linking here. I think the news just reported that Govt imposed some kind of new standard for SMRT and SBS Transit. If fail then gana fined.
Hm....Then just nice that SMRT submit in new request for fare hike..... on surface it seem like a nice coverup. higher cost for higher level of services.... but....
Who is Major shareholder of SMRT?? U know the answer (T******).. and who controlled that entity(Govt)?? Again you know the answer..
and so if there is ever a fine, SMRT will pay to Govt..... isnt that a case of taking money from left pocket to right pocket?
On a side note, if SMRT fail the standard and end up paying a lot in fine, that would reduce the profit... then the retails investor will end up having lesser dividend.... so now there dun think by buying SMRT share, you can hedge against price hike....

- Both bus companies are not really competing. More like a cartel
Prices will fall only when there is TRUE Competition, and NOT the controlled competition in our public transport. Look at what happened to Singtel after M1 and Starhub came into the picture -
